Most people will never run 26.2 miles. Only a very small percentage of the population are willing to push themselves to that extreme level of endurance.
Not only is that distance intimidating physically, the mental demand may be even more jaw dropping for any aspiring competitive athletes.
Today’s guest, Dave Frazier, is a longtime friend of SBD host, Jared Haley, and shares some sound advice when it comes to taking control of your health and training for the world’s most popular foot race, a marathon.
"The key is to just go slower… If you feel like 'ugh, I’m not just gonna make it' -- you're either going too fast or you've been going so long that you need some fuel to keep going." - Dave Frazier

Why Do We Fear Failure? #shorts
Subscribe to the Strong By Design Podcast Show
http://www.strongbydesignpodcast.com
God says over and over again. Fear not! Do not be afraid. Be strong and courageous. Trust me.
Why? Fear doesn’t seem like the most serious of vices, it’s not one of the 7 deadly sins, nor is it the object of church discipline. So why does God tell us to stop being afraid more often than he tells us anything else?
It’s not to spare us from emotional discomfort. Rather it is because fear sabotages flourishing. Fear keeps us from following God wholeheartedly. As John Orberg says, “Fear is the number one reason human beings are tempted to avoid doing what God asks them to do.”
Today on the Strong By Design podcast show, host Mike Westerdal sits down with friend and pastor of Skycrest Community Church, Chris Stephens, to discuss the topic of fear and the impact on flourishing.
"Failure is essential because there are some lessons we are not going to learn if we don’t fail... So don’t be paralyzed in fear of making the wrong decision.” - Pastor Chris Stephens

In the words of our inspiring guest today…
“We were made for greatness but we continue to settle behind half-truths and useless excuses, building walls and masks, hoping that no one will see who we truly are underneath.
It is time for a change. We can be that change.” ~Brian Alsruhe
Today’s episode dives DEEP into the human spirit and what it looks like to overcome the many challenges that life throws at us.
We believe 100% that You Are Strong By Design and in order to fix this broken world, we must stand strong, seek truth in all things, be grateful for our many blessings and never give up on ourselves or those we care about.
Leave it all on the field and die empty friends.
“When you start talking to people, especially when you get past the standard conversation, it’s amazing how many people have these tragic things in their life, and how many people can relate to it in so many different ways… We’re all just going through stuff. We should be nice to each other.” - Brian Alsruhe

One thing is for sure, we are all designed differently.
The definition of temperament: a person’s or animal’s nature, especially as it permanently affects their behavior.
In this façade-removing episode of the Strong By Design podcast show, guest Jared Haley and host Chris Wilson discuss what Jared refers to as the BIG ugly: Who we actually are and who we portray ourselves to be in the world.
Both guys reveal their personal Enneagram test results and take a closer look at how to truly know ourselves on a deeper level and understand that God designed us all with a plan and a purpose…

How to Find REST ft. Dave Williams | Strong By Design Ep 272
Subscribe to the Strong By Design Podcast Show
http://www.strongbydesignpodcast.com
Life today is moving at breakneck speed.
People are busier than ever, maxed out, overwhelmed, and filled with anxiety and stress. Look around and you can just feel it in your community, in the news and all over the world.
This episode is giving you permission to stop. To shut down and unplug. It is time to find rest to allow for healing, restoration and renewal of your body, mind and spirit.
Co-host Jared Haley sits down with friend and pastor Dave Williams to talk about finding some overdue rest in our lives. If God rested, then it is probably important for us as well.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” ~Matthew 11:28-30

One thing is for sure, we are all designed differently.
The definition of temperament: a person’s or animal’s nature, especially as it permanently affects their behavior.
In this façade-removing episode of the Strong By Design podcast show, guest Jared Haley and host Chris Wilson discuss what Jared refers to as the BIG ugly: Who we actually are and who we portray ourselves to be in the world.
Both guys reveal their personal Enneagram test results and take a closer look at how to truly know ourselves on a deeper level and understand that God designed us all with a plan and a purpose…
"As you learn about yourself, you learn what your weaknesses and strengths are so that you can develop and get better, and not so you can use it as an excuse." - Jared Haley

From where we stand, things can "appear" to look better off in the distance.
The famous saying ‘the grass is always greener on the other side’ is often referred to by people pursuing interests other than the ones they’re currently involved with.
However, in reality it’s more like the other famous phrase that goes like this, ‘good from afar but far from good’.
Honestly, how well do we really know other people's stuff? Most people post their highlight reel life and not the day-to-day grind and frustrations but the image they want others to see.
The grass from afar looks perfect, green and full. However, when you examine it up close you realize it's not so perfect, it's flawed, needs weeding, has dry patches and needs to be cared for just the same as the grass you're standing in.
Remember, the enemy wants us looking backwards... but we are called to look to the present and the future. So, take care of the grass where you are and spend time focused on it.
"The windshield is much larger than the rear window for a reason. Why? Because we need to see where we are headed, more than we need to see where we've been." - Chris Wilson

Are You Driven by Passion or Fear? #shorts

What is passion? And are you living a passion filled life?
For our team here at Critical Bench we define passion this way… Passion is a deep love of who we are, what we do and who we serve.
It is one of our 7 core values that guides us, leads us and creates the foundation for our purpose at work and in the world.
Another important question to explore is, “Are you a slave to your work?”
In this episode on SBD, coach Chris Wilson passionately discusses these questions and more based on an article he recently read in Forbes. Remember, you are not a robot, you were designed for greatness and passion is one of the keys to unlocking it.
"When passion is fueling what you do, you will naturally outwork and outlast your competitors." - Chris Wilson

Why Physical Exams and Blood Work are Essential for Good Health ft. Gillis Pellegrin | SBD Ep 268
Subscribe to the Strong By Design Podcast Show

When was the last time you got a physical exam? In your teens or 20s perhaps?
Do you know more about how your computer works, your car or your iPhone compared to what is happening inside your own body!? There is a very good chance you do.
Sadly, many of us go years without getting evaluated and checked by a medical professional to find out the status of our health. Routine physical examinations and blood work may sound like a minor thing to do but it can reveal so much about our overall health and wellbeing. It could even save your life!
Functional Nutritionist Gillis Pellegrin from The Educated Dieter speaks with host Chris Wilson about the simple things all people can do to take ownership when it comes to their personal health and living a life strong by design.
“You have to treat your internal health and your physical health just as important as you see something that is completely non-negotiable in other aspects of life.” - Gillis Pellegrin

Psychedelics and Neuroplasticity: Can they Rewire and Heal the Brain? ft. Jose Munoz | SBD Ep 267
Subscribe to the Strong By Design Podcast Show

Could Psychedelics be the future of mental health treatment and healing? Controversial, yes, but certainly worth exploration.
What appears to be true is that in recent decades, mental health throughout the world has been on the decline and what also appears to be true is that much of what is being done to resolve the issue is not working very well.
Luckily mental health is finally getting the recognition and attention it deserves.
While traditional prescription medications seem to be the norm, are they truly helping to heal or just cope with past traumas, anxiety, and depression? Is the best strategy to improving people’s mental health for them to be numb to their feelings and to merely treat their symptoms for life?
Our guest today on the Strong By Design podcast is Jose Munoz Aycart, co-founder of Wondermed. Jose and his team are attempting to go further than standard treatments for anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other similar mental health concerns with the goal of alleviating the symptoms of psychological distress.
“Mental health is much more than just medicine, much more than anxiety and much more than depression. It is the way in which we see life, the way in which we experience it, and the way in which we feel about it. Therefore, the way that we live it.” -- Jose Munoz Aycart
