FBI releases photos of Trump shooting investigation
The FBI has released new photographs of evidence found in their investigation into the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. The four photos are of Thomas Matthew Crooks’ rifle, his backpack, the unexploded bombs in his trunk and the air conditioning unit he used to scale the dangerously sloped roof.
Despite over 1,000 hours of interviews and trawling through five years of Crooks’ internet history, the FBI are still unsure as to the motive behind Crooks’ assassination antics. Special agent Kevin Rojek told reporters that Crooks had ‘a mixture of ideologies,’ and that they saw ‘no definitive ideology associated with our subject, either left-leaning or right-leaning.’ Crooks had apparently been searching for how to make explosives since 2019, although the bombs he made ‘had several problems,’ and the detonators were switched off.
Despite being unsure of what did happen, the FBI are much more confident in what did not. There were no traces of drugs or alcohol in Crooks’ system. There was no indication of foreign involvement in the planning. There was no second shooter, or accomplice of any kind. And there is no way to confirm any of the biological evidence because the body has already been cremated.

Spectacular lightning lights up Mecca
A violent storm has lashed Saudi Arabia’s Mecca region, causing an epic bolt of lightning to strike the Fairmont Makkah Clock Royal Tower hotel and just keep on striking. 1.21 jiggawatts of electricity coursed between the clock tower and the sky for several seconds, lighting up the sky like a second moon. Not that the Moon would have been visible, not with the winds and heavy rain. The strike was so energetic that several upward streamers developed, fizzling upwards into the sky. That main strike? That also travels upwards. Lightning is weird like that.
The clock tower, located near the Grand Mosque, often finds itself battered by lightning during Saudi Arabia’s storm season, and being the tallest building around, it often makes for one spectacular light show.

Former French soldier moved to Russia to train drone pilots
A former French soldier, Sergei Mounier, now leads the ‘Normandie-Niemen’ volunteer UAV unit in the Kursk region. Born in Lugansk, Mounier moved to France at age 10, served in the French military, and was initially sent (unofficially, of course) to Ukraine as an instructor in 2014. However, he decided to join the pro-Russian militia in the Donbass instead. ‘[They told me] ‘you can take a vacation, go there, help, come back, and we won’t tell you anything’,’ Mounier said. ‘I did that, but I flew to Kharkov and from Kharkov I got to Donetsk. I met the militiamen and said, ‘hello, I’m a volunteer’.’ When the conflict with Ukraine broke out, he volunteered to go straight to the front. Mounier acquired Russian citizenship in July.
In April, he decided to create a French volunteer unit of drone pilots. Mounier’s unit, named after a French squadron that fought with the Red Army in World War II, is equipped with modern weaponry and is involved in combat operations, and ‘Normandie-Nieman’ has already destroyed T-64 tanks and Ukrainian BMP infantry fighting vehicles. The unit is currently helping the Russian Armed Forces in the Kursk region to counter Ukrainian advances.
