Direct Impact | The West’s crazy fascination with drug busts in Russia
On this episode of Direct Impact, Rick Sanchez takes a look at Western media’s insane obsession with drug busts in Russia when they involve an American culprit. Recently another American was busted in Russia for marijuana possession, in a case reminiscent of Brittney Griner. It quickly became fodder for the US mainstream media and ran on almost all of the major new channels. But, as Rick points out, there are tens of if not hundreds more drug busts in the United States as the American government continues its failed war on drugs. Rick is joined by conservative commentator Steve Gill for this and more. Don’t miss it!

Dubai police save cat trapped in flood
As unprecedented rainfall battered Dubai into submersion and then carried on battering, chaos gripped the country. Flights have been canceled. Schools have been closed. Metro stations have been declared off limits. And more importantly, a cat was found in need of rescue.
Dubai police shared the video of the cat as it clung desperately to a car door. It is unclear at this stage whether the cat owned the vehicle, whether it was trying to gain access to claw at the seats for some reason, or was just trying to stay undrowned. In any case, the cat was rescued by passing police, who uploaded the video with ‘every life counts in Dubai.’ All nine of them.

Epic cat rescue from floods in Orenburg region
Perched on a small, sinking piece of wood, the cat was far from its normal habitat of sitting on a laptop and knocking things off shelves out of spite. Perhaps it was on an epic journey to bring back spices from the Orient. Perhaps it just got washed away like the rest of the flotsam. Perhaps we will never know.
The rescue attempt was fraught with peril: the water was rising, and cats have claws, even for their saviors. The first attempt ended in failure, as the boat overshot the target. However, the second ended with a very wet cat joining the crew.
The cat was among over 13,000 people evacuated and displaced by floods in the Orenburg region, caused by an unprecedented swelling of the Ural River.

Iranian president warns of ‘massive’ response if Israel launches ‘tiniest invasion'
Even the smallest attack by Israel will bring a ‘massive and harsh’ response, Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi has warned. Speaking at an army parade at a barracks near Tehran on Wednesday, Raisi said that if any move was made against Iran by the ‘Zionist regime’ they would retaliate. The country continues to brace for a potential backlash from Israel.
In response to a strike on Iran’s embassy compound in Syria which killed 12 people, Iran launched hundreds of missiles and drones at Israel last weekend, in an operation dubbed ‘True Promise.’ Most of them were intercepted by Israeli air defense with help from the US and other allies, and it is not yet known what Israel’s ultimate response might be.

North Korea pulls out all the stops for apartment complex opening
We’ve never seen a housewarming quite like this.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un somehow manages to make it party time wherever he goes, and Tuesday’s opening of a new apartment complex in Pyongyang was no exception, where the event was turned into something akin to the opening ceremony for the Olympics. Crowds were seemingly overcome with joy at seeing Kim (or being given a free balloon), fireworks were set off, and there was even a flyover as the ribbon was cut by everyone’s favorite leather jacket model.
Beats getting in a local reality TV ‘celebrity’ to do the deed, anyway.

The Whistleblowers | Will the US Justice Department offer Julian Assange a deal?
WikiLeaks cofounder Julian Assange has been held in London’s notorious maximum-security Belmarsh Prison for almost five years. Before that, he was in self-imposed exile in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London. A few years ago, the CIA made plans to kill or kidnap Assange in broad daylight in the streets of London, if the US government’s request to extradite him turned out to be unsuccessful. But that request is pending and is likely to go forward in the near future. The big question then is whether the US Justice Department will offer Assange a deal he can live with or whether he will be forced to go on trial for his life. On this episode of The Whistleblowers, John Kiriakou speaks with journalist and Consortium News editor Joe Lauria and activist and radio host Randy Credico about what the future might hold for Julian Assange.
