Who Did It Best – Mozart or Tchaikovsky?
Bringing You Purrfect Music Every Day!
Well… Both were dynamite in their time, excelling in a range of musical genres. Tchaikovsky drew quite a bit of inspiration from Mozart’s works, with ‘Don Giovanni’ being up there with one of his greatest inspirations. Tchaikovsky wrote his 'Mozartiana' in 1887, exactly 100 years after the great Mozart opera made its debut.
Supposedly, Tchaikovsky even wrote that he believed that Mozart was a ‘musical christ’ .
Once again, we journey into the realm of student vs teacher!
00:00 Symphony no. 41 in C 'Jupiter', K. 551 - I. Allegro vivace (Mozart)
08:01 Symphoni No.5 e-moll Op.64 - V. Finale Andante maestoso (Tchaikovsky)
18:05 Requiem in D minor, K. 626 - III. Sequence - Lacrymosa (Mozart – Piano version)
21:32 The Nutcracker Suite - Act I, No.4. Russian Dance (Tchaikovsky)
22:33 Overture to The marriage of Figaro, K. 492 (Mozart)
26:34 Swan Lake Op.20 - Act II Pt.1 (Tchaikovsky)
30:43 Piano Concerto no. 21 in C major, K. 467 - II. Andante (Mozart)
35:00 Piano Concerto No.1 in B flat minor Op.23 - I. Allegro (Tchaikovsky)
38:11 Symphony no. 40 in G minor, K. 550 - I. Molto Allegro (Mozart)
44:10 Symphony No. 6 In B Minor, Op. 74, 'Pathetique' - I. Adagio, Allegro Non Troppo (Tchaikovsky)
55:42 Piano Concerto no. 20 in D minor, K. 466 - Romance (Mozart)
59:51 Piano Concerto No.1 Fantasy - Op.56 - I. Andante mosso candenza (Tchaikovsky)
1:05:45 Don Giovanni, K. 527 - Overture (Mozart)
1:12:05 Romeo and Juliet (Overture-Fantasia) (Tchaikovsky)

Who Did It Best – Haydn or Beethoven?
Bringing You Purrfect Music Every Day!
Yes… Once again we travel into the realm of teacher vs student. Haydn was considered the father of symphonies, and for a time, Beethoven was a student of Haydn’s. However, this powerful combination did not last long due to Beethoven’s rather rebellious nature, eager to experiment more with form, and go beyond the tradition, the two parted ways.
Despite the split, Beethoven was greatly influenced by Haydn’s unique talent. So let’s look how the these two geniuses did it – and if you think one did it better than the other…
00:00 Symphony no. 95 in C minor, Hob.I 95 - IV. Finale Vivace (Haydn)
03:50 Symphony no. 5 in Cm, Op. 67 - IV. Allegro (Beethoven)
15:18 Trumpet Concerto in E flat major, Hob. VIIe 1 - III. Allegro (Haydn)
19:32 Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61 - III. Rondo Allegro (Beethoven)
29:15 Cello Concerto no. 1 in C major, Hob. VIIb 1 - I. Moderato (Haydn)
39:32 Cello Sonata No. 4, mov. 1 - Ben Larsen, Ava Nazar (Beethoven)
45:58 Symphony No.104 in D major, 'London' Hob.I 104 - I. Adagio - Allegro (Haydn)
55:04 Symphony No. 6 in F Major 'Pastoral', Op. 68 - I. Allegro non troppo (Beethoven)
1:04:28 Piano Sonata in F major, Hob. XVI 23 - II. Adagio (Haydn)
1:08:26 Sonata No. 21, Op. 53 in C Major Waldstein - I. Allegro Con Brio (Beethoven)
1:19:47 Quartet No. 75 in G Op.76 1 - II. Adagio sostenuto (Haydn)
1:26:37 String Quartet No. 6 in B Flat Major, Op. 18, No. 6 - IV. (Adagio) La Malinconia (Beethoven)

Who Did It Best - Vivaldi or Bach?
Bringing You Purrfect Music Every Day!
Both composers excelled in the Baroque era and in violin compositions, focusing on violin solos and ensembles. Bach was so impressed with Vivaldi’s concertos, he incorporated some of the themes in his work.
So… Once again we look at did the ‘student’ outdo the ‘teacher’, or at least enjoy the individual styles of these two artists that defined their era of music.
00:00 Brandenburg Concerto No.4 in G major, BWV 1049 - III. Andante Presto (Bach)
09:00 Violin Concerto in F minor, RV 297 'Winter' - III. Allegro (Vivaldi)
12:14 Triple Concerto in D Minor for flute, oboe, violin & strings BWV 1064 - I (Bach)
19:00 Violin Concerto in Bb, Op. 4_1 RV 383a - 1. La Stravaganza, Allegro (Vivaldi)
22:52 Flute Sonata in Bm, BWV 1030 (Bach)
30:01 Flute Concerto in F, Op.10, No.1 - Allegro, Largo, Presto (Vivaldi)
35:13 Cello Suite no. 3 in C, BWV 1009 - V. Serabande Bourree No.2 (Bach)
39:15 Concerto for 2 Cellos in G minor, RV 531 (Vivaldi)
43:44 Concerto for 2 Violins in D minor, BWV 1043 - I. Vivace (Bach)
47:49 Concerto for 2 Violins in A minor, RV 522 - I. Allegro (Vivaldi)
51:24 Brandenburg Concerto no. 1 in F major, BWV. 1046 - I. Allegro (Bach)
56:15 Violin Concerto in F major, RV 293 'Autumn' - III. Allegro (Vivaldi)

Who Did It Best - Chopin or Rachmaninoff
Bringing You Purrfect Music Every Day!
Ok… That might be a bit of a loaded question. Both composers were and still are wonderful. However, comparing their styles does make for a rather interesting listening experience. And if you closed your eyes, could you guess which composer created the piece?
One of the cool things about the comparison between these two composers, was that Rachmaninoff was supposedly greatly inspired by Chopin. So, did the student outdo his teacher..?
00:00 Piano Concerto no. 2 in F minor, Op. 21 - III. Allegro vivace (Chopin)
08:12 Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor, Op. 18 - II. Adagio sostenuto (Rachmaninoff)
19:10 Etude Op. 25 no. 1 in A flat major - 'Aeolian Harp _ Shepherd Boy' (Chopin)
21:58 Études Tableaux, Op. 39 - V. Apassionato (Rachmaninoff)
26:13 Etude Op. 10, no. 12 in C minor - 'Revolutionary' (Chopin)
28:40 Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor, Op. 18 - I. Moderato (Rachmaninoff)
39:34 Piano Concerto no. 1 in E minor, Op. 11 - III. Rondo – Vivace (Chopin)
49:10 13 Preludes, Op. 32 - 10. Lento (B (Rachmaninoff)
54:21 Preludes, Op. 28 - No. 15 'Raindrop' (Chopin)
1:00:24 10 Preludes, Op.23 - 4. Andante cantabile (D major) (Rachmaninoff)
1:05:43 Preludes, Op. 28 - No. 24 'The storm' (Chopin)
1:08:04 Prelude in G Sharp Minor Op.32 No.12 (Rachmaninoff)
1:11:02 Prelude in E Minor Op. 28, No. 4
(Chopin)
1:13:34 Morceaux de fantaisie, Op. 3 - 2. (Played by Rachmaninoff personally, restoration)
1:17:10 Nocturne in E flat major, Op. 9 no. 2 (Chopin)

15 Classical Christmas Classics by Tchaikovsky, Anderson, Vivaldi, Gruber, Beethoven… And More!
Bringing You Purrfect Music Every Day!
It is that time of the year! Regardless, if you celebrate Christmas with family, friends, or not at all. There is just something so uplifting about Christmas music. So, I am taking us back to the good ole Christmas classicals – plus a music box piece of Tchaikovsky’s ‘December’.
Now, some of these pieces are exactly designed to be Christmas songs, like ‘Winter’ by Vivaldi, and ‘Ode to Joy’ by Beethoven. However, over the years, they have become ingrained as Christmas favs.
Do you recognize these classics?
Enjoy!
00:00 Sleigh Ride (Leroy Anderson)
02:58 The Nutcracker Suite - Act I, No.1. Overture (Tchaikovsky)
06:21 Christmas Eve (Rimsky-Korsakov)
10:17 Deck the Halls (Michel Rondeaeu)
11:26 Messiah (Handel)
15:10 Joy to the World (Lowell Mason)

12 of the Best of Concerto Grosso -Vivaldi, Scalatti, Corelli, Bach, Geminiani, Boyce, and Handel
Bringing You Purrfect Music Every Day!
What is the difference between Concertos and Concerto Grosso? Concerto Grosso is Italian for ‘big concert’ – it is a small group of soloists that share the melody between themselves, accompanied by the orchestra, most commonly heard in the Baroque era; whereas, in a traditional concerto a single solo instrument plays the melody line and is accompanied by the orchestra.
Basically, in a concerto grosso, the soloist instruments sort-of vie to be centre-of-attention.
Let’s be transported back to that age of Baroque with the Best of Concerto Grosso by Handel, Vivaldi, Geminiani, Bach, Scarlatti, and Corelli
00:00 Concerto Grosso in G major, HWV 314 - I. Largo e staccato (Handel)
03:27 Concerto in E Major, Op. 3_12 L'estro armonico (Vivaldi)
13:50 6 Concertos, Op.7 - Concerto Grosso in D Op7_1 (Geminiani)
23:46 Brandenburg Concerto No.4 in G major, BWV 1049 - III. Andante Presto a (Bach)
32:49 Sinfonie di concerto grosso No 7 in g minor for flute, strings & continuo (Scarlatti)
39:22 12 Concerti Grossi, Op. 6 - Concerto no. 6 Grosso in F major (Corelli)
50:45 Concerto Grosso in B flat Major (Boyce)
1:01:39 Concerto Grosso No.4 in a minor, Op. 6 (Handel)
1:12:49 Brandenburg Concerto No.3 in G major, BWV 1048 - I. [Allegro] (Bach)
1:16:24 12 Concerti Grossi, Op. 6 - Concerto no. 4 Grosso in G Major (Orig. in D (Corelli)
1:25:38 Concerto grosso in F minor (Scarlatti)
1:33:22 Concerto in D Major, Op. 3_9 L'estro armonico (Vivaldi)
