10 Beethoven Songs You Have Heard but Don't Know the Name.
Did You Know..?
Somewhere, at some point, you have probably heard at least one of these songs, if not quite a few. I remember watching a tv show called ‘Christie’, and in one of the episodes there was this most beautiful song being played on the piano. It was haunting… and that tune stayed with me for years.
And then I stumbled across classical music as a bit of a hobby (little did I know I would utilize this hobby for Youtube!) Once again, I heard that tune… That tune that has appeared in quite a few popular movies, and even some controversial ones.
So, sit back and enjoy 10 Beethoven Songs You Have Heard but Don’t Know the Name…
Up first is this tune that sticks in my head…
00:00 ‘Moonlight’ Sonata
05:22 Piano Sonata no. 8 in C minor 'Pathetique', Op. 13 - I. Grave - Allegro di molto e con brio

Why Tchaikovsky, Glinka, Borodin and Rachmaninoff are the Best of Russia.
Passionate, fiery, lustful, vengeful, sweet, relaxing… Russian Classical and Romantic music invokes a range of emotions like no other style.
Mikhail Glinka is considered to be the Father of Russian music, his passionate operas potentially marking the beginning of musical nationalism in Russia.
Alexander Borodin a Romantic composer and chemist, was part of ‘The Five’ – a group dedicated to bring uniquely Russian music to the world. His string quartets and operas perhaps do not have the same style as Tchaikovsky’s; however, his knowledge of chemistry seems to have carried forward into his artistry of music.
Sergei Rachmaninoff was a renowned Russian composer - the last great figure of the tradition of Russian Romanticism and a leading piano virtuoso of his time. His works were greatly influenced by another Russian composer that he would listen to when he was young, and finally collaborated with when he enrolled at the Moscow Conservatory – none other than the most known of all Russian composers – Tchaikovsky!
And of course Tchaikovsky’s works embody passion, drama and murderous intrigue – especially with his popular ballets ‘The Nutcracker’ and ‘Swan Lake’.
I hope you enjoy my pick of The Best of Russian Composers – Glinka, Borodin, Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky.
Songs:
00:00 The Nutcracker Suite - Act I, No.4. Russian Dance (Tchaikovsky)
00:59 Trio Pathétique (Glinka)

The BEST of Classical Music: Vivaldi, Verdi, Scarlatti, Rossini and Clementi
Did You Know..?
Italian Classical Romantic music brought to the world some passionate and memorable operas.
Antonio Vivaldi, an Italian Baroque composer, virtuoso violinist, teacher and cleric. He is recognized as one of the greatest Baroque composers, and his influence during his lifetime was widespread across Europe.
Giuseppe Verdi was best known for his emotional operas keeping the audience engaged throughout. Influenced by Gioachino Rossini, Gaetano Donizetti, and Vincenzo Bellini, he dominated the Italian opera scene.
Domenico Scarlatti is well-known for his operas, oratorios, and sacred music. However, his 555 short sonatas for harpsichord is what he is most remembered for.
Gioachino Rossini considered a traditionalist in Classical music, writing a variety of operas, and although still very popular at the time, he stopped writing operas as the new era of music took centre-stage.
Muzio Clementi's long series of piano sonatas was his claim to fame, and his celebrated studies for piano are still what most remember him for.
I hope you enjoy my pick of The Best of Classical Music - Vivaldi, Verdi, Scarlatti, Rossini and Clementi.

Did You Know..?
You have probably heard more Brahms in day-to-day life than you realise….
The German composer – Johannes Brahms was one of the ‘Three Bs’, alongside traditionally Baroque Bach, and classical/romanticism Beethoven. Brahms falls squarely in the Romantic period of classical music, defining this era with his more conservative approach to ‘absolute music’.
I hope you enjoy 5 Brahms Songs You’ve Heard but Don’t Know the Name, or maybe you do… Let me know in the comments!
00:00 Concerto in Re Marriore Op.77 - III. Allegro giocoso

The Best of Beethoven.
12:25 Bagatelle no. 25 ''Für Elise'', WoO 59
15:10 Symphony no. 5 in Cm, Op. 67 - I. Allegro con brio
22:59 Symphony No. 3 in E Flat Major Eroica, Op. 55 - III. Scherzo Allegro vivace
28:52 Sonata No. 21, Op. 53 in C Major Waldstein - I. Allegro Con Brio
40:12 The Ruins of Athens, Op. 113 (Turkish March)
42:55 Piano Sonata no. 8 in C minor 'Pathetique', Op. 13 - II. Adagio cantabile
47:59 Symphony No.9 - IV. Presto - Allegro Assai
53:59 Violin Sonata no. 9 'Kreutzer', Op. 47 - III. Finale Presto
I also have a Give a Little Page for our little rescue kittens. This fund just helps with pet insurance, food, vet bills, and anything else that crops up! https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/giving-a-mother-cat-and-5-kittens-a-loving-home
