As Russia continues efforts to exert influence in the Middle East, with its involvement in Syria, Vladimir Putin should be reminded that his continued support and backing of Bashir al-Assad is seen as a direct threat to the United States. In recent weeks as Russia aggression in the conflict has increased, their actions serve to embolden the once weakened Assad and hinder US gains. Adding to the severity of Russia's engagement is the relationship with Iran, a backer of the Syrian regime and enemy of the west. It is time for US officials to convey, in no uncertain terms, that America's patience has run its course and Russia would be best served to avoid any further agitation.

Whether it's matters dealing with the economy and trade or ones related to our nation's security, China's influence over both our adversaries and allies warrants it being the highest priority for our diplomatic and defense policies. As America's debt level continues to rise with China acquiring more of the control and with North Korea seeking strategic alliances in pursuit of its nuclear ambitions, the U.S cannot afford to let more time pass by without a plan to keep China at bay and protect our interests. It will take coordination and leadership from key Trump administration cabinet members to ensure the United States is resolute in its pursuit of keeping China from wielding its influence in a way that supports those who wish us harm.

A long time coming, this week it is expected the Kurdistan region of Iraq will vote for its independence, laying the groundwork for its complete separation from the Iraqi government ruling from Baghdad. While a triumph for Kurds throughout the Middle East, it may bring with it undesirable ramifications as both Iran and Turkey have signified their intent to block the decision from being a reality. Nonetheless, as a strong ally for the West against the likes of ISIS and having built its own infrastructure, Kurdistan deserves this moment.
