Utah mom, Kouri Richins, 33, is facing charges for allegedly poisoning her late husband with a lethal dose of fentanyl in March of 2022 with a Moscow mule she made for him in celebration after closing a business deal. Richins is detained without bail as her trial approaches, but that didn't stop her from sending a letter from jail that got the prosecutors seriously concerned. ➜ Kowalski v. Johns Hopkins. This is a case we've been tracking for a while, Florida arising out of circumstances documented in the Netflix documentary: "Taking Care of Maya". Opening statements began on Thursday and the plaintiffs began presenting their evidence today. ➜ Ruby Franke & Jodi Hildebrant Search Warrants. Search warrants were executed on the residence of Jodi HIldebrant and Ruby Franke. The items discovered during the search are fairly troubling. ➜ Google Maps Sued Following Driver's Death. Philip Paxson, a 47-year-old Navy veteran, died as he drove back alone from his daughter’s 9th birthday party on the night of Sept. 30, 2022. Paxton was using Google Maps for directions as his route allegedly lead him off a unmarked, unbarricaded collapsed bridge in North Carolina. Gibson is alleging that the release of her elicit livestream materials, where she would perform certain acts in exchange for tips, was unlawful and is levying some serious accusations. Let's see if what she's saying holds weight. ➜ Murdaugh Motion For New Trial. The South Carolina Attorney General has filed a response to Alex Murdaugh's motion for a new trial, which you'll recall alleged some really serious misconduct by the elected Clerk of Court, Rebecca "Becky" Hill. The Court conducted a competency hearing for Tom Girardi in his Federal criminal cases our of California and apparently Mr. Girardi had some spicy remarks. Alex Murdaugh filed a motion this week alleging some really serious misconduct by the elected Clerk of Court, Rebecca "Becky" Hill. Several statements followed the motion, so there's a lot to break down. ➜ Ruby Franke Arrested. Ruby Franke from the YouTube channel, 8 Passengers, has been arrested following some really egregious allegations of misconduct related to her children. We have the 911 call and an update on where things stand and where we can expect things to go. ➜ Sarah Boone. Ms. Boone's 6th attorney was granted leave to withdraw from her case and she's been appointed a new attorney (her 7th) to appoint her going forward. Ms. Boone has some opinions on the matter and put them into a letter that deserves some discussion. ➜ Kowalski v. Johns Hopkins. Samuel Bankman-Fried. The government dismissed it's campaign finance charge against Bankman-Fried and conspiracy theories are running rampant. At the same time, Bankman-Fried has put himself in hot water with the Court after contact nearly everyone under the sun with inside information on those who might be called to testify against him at trial. The Court is NOT happy, but is it enough for Bankman-Fried to have bail revoked and face pretrial detention? ➜ State of Idaho v. Bryan C. Kohberger. Bryan Kohberger filed a motion this week seeking to dismiss his grand jury indictment. The motion is...interesting... Combine that with Kohberger's notice of alibi and we've got some things to catch up on in that case. ➜ State of Wisconsin v. Taylor D. Schabusiness. After a final competency hearing last week, Taylor Schabusiness went to trial on first degree intentional homicide, mutilation, and third degree s.a. (yes, in that order) and in a trial that lasted four total days was found guilty of all charges and sane (losing her petition for a finding of not guilty by reason of insanity). We also have Sarah Boone's July 21st letter to the Judge in Florida expressing additional frustrations at the progress of her case, and maybe a preview of a trial coming up in September that's got me fascinated. Tonight's Docket: ➜ Taco Bell sues to make "Taco Tuesday" available for everyone...out of the goodness of their corporate hearts...absolutely for no other reason than that! ➜ Erika Girardi wins her appeal - the Trustee did not meet its burden of proving that the earrings were property of the bankruptcy estate, yet the earrings have already been sold and purchased at auction by Ron Richards, an attorney remarkably invested in the case... So what happens now? ➜ The FTX debtors just filed their adversary proceeding against Sam Bankman-Fried, Gary Wang, and Caroline Ellison. The complaint lays out new allegations that include details of the $10 million "loaned" to Bankman-Fried's father, SBF openly claiming Alameda is "unauditable", etc. The same day this adversary proceeding was filed, the New York Times ran a story on Caroline Ellison, the government's star cooperating witness in SBF's prosecution. Tonight's Docket: ➜ This week started with the PGA Tour answering some very uncomfortable questions before the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, especially after the document dump that leaked behind-the-scenes details surrounding the ordeal with Saudi-backed LIV Golf. The politics were at a minimum and some of the questions cast a light on how swings in litigation can push big entities with tons of money to call a ceasefire. ➜ Several handwritten documents were discovered in Aretha Franklin’s home after in the months after her death in August of 2019, triggering a dispute between her heirs as to which of the documents contained her final wishes. A jury this week gave us the answer – it was the one found in the couch cushions. ➜ It seems like every week brings us a new lawsuit involving Artificial Intelligence (btw – who thought that sentence would’ve made sense just a few years ago…), and this week is no different. As the Senate began hearings to try and determine what to do about copyright law pertaining to AI, Sarah Silverman filed suit against ChatGPT creator OpenAI for copyright infringement. (written to "create peace and comfort for children who have lost a loved one"). After bail was denied earlier this week, Richins filed a $1.9 million lawsuit against the estate of her late husband, who she is accused of murdering... You. Can't. Make. This. Stuff. Up. ➜ Lawyers Using Fake ChatGPT Cases Sanctioned - U.S. District Judge P. Kevin Castel in Manhattan issued a sanctions order against the two lawyers who submitted a legal brief with fake case citations and fake cases created by ChatGPT. Let's look through the order. ➜ FTX Sues Hollywood Super Agent & Political Mover for $700 Million - FTX (or, more appropriately, the bankruptcy estate) has sued Michael Kives, former aide to Hillary Clinton & agent of Kate Hudson (& others), and his company K5 Global seeking to recover $700 million that Sam Bankman-Fried authorized be transferred to Alameda.
