EcoWater Birm Iron Filter ETF AIIF9-115 Birm/gravel Replacement. This video covers disassembly and cleaning tips of the Ecowater birm Iron filter ETF AIIF9-115. Video #2 will cover re-assembly with new gravel, birm and start up. This type of filter removes iron/rust from your water, including the smell and taste. A little background on my own personal dealings with iron in my water, when My wife and I first moved here in 1988 there was a Culligan water softener in our trailer, at that time I knew very little about these things. The softener stopped working, my wife’s hair went from blond to red, and my white socks were orange. In 1991 we built our house and still had the same issue. I searched for information on how to get rid of the iron, I used hole house filters, but the cost of the filters was expensive and really didn’t do a very good job, our softeners would work for a while then not so much, we would then replace it. We tried “Iron Out” in our softener but found out later it wreaks havoc on the softeners resin beads eventually breaking them rendering them useless. Then I found a product called “Crystal Clean” (Link Below), which is made by Terlyn Industries which would clean my softeners resin beads without breaking them so the softener was like new again, but this did not help my original iron problem. I had a friend who worked for Ecowater and he talked about an iron filter, he came and tested our water, we had 20 GPG (grains per gallon) hardness & 6 PPM (parts per million) iron/rust. If I filled a clear glass of water straight from our well, bypassing the softener, set it on the table it looked clear but in 20 minutes you could not see through it, oxygen in the air reacted with the iron/rust in the water and the iron would appear. In 2006 we purchased our Iron filter and had Dale complete the installation for $2500.00 which for us was a lot of money in 2006, especially not knowing if it would work or not. Well I can tell you it was a God send. This filter requires no salt, just a small air compressor that runs when you draw water from a faucet, the oxygen from the pump reacts with the iron/rust particles in the water and iron/rust sticks to the birm like steel to a magnet. Then the filter is set to backflush with water every few days washing the iron/rust particles down a drain. Since the original install in 2006 we had to replace the air pump once, and the birm/gravel change rebuild in 2020 is the only service it has required. I do still run “Crystal Clean” through my water softener every few months just to clean any residual iron/rust that may get through our iron filter; together these two methods have worked very well for us. This short picture series of aluminum blocks that are for the rear suspension of a snowmobile and were too small to do what the owner wanted them to do which was limit suspension travel so the snowmobile would not lift the skis so high. He wanted the two sides which were created by the factory for use to stay the dimension they were, and wanted me to add approximately ¾” on one side, and 1” on the other side. I had some ¼” x 1” aluminum flat stock and used it as the original block was 1” thick, this being said I had to grind out between each piece so I would get good penetration as I was to mill the welds down to the blocks original thickness which would remove most of the weld. The blocks would not have any kind of stresses on them that would tear them apart just pressure pushing them together. After assembling all the pieces to add to each left and right hand blocks, I had to weld them to the factory blocks and mill them down to size. V-8 Engine Rebuild SBC #2 Crank Install is the second video in a series on the full rebuild of the original 350 Chevrolet engine in my 1971 K-10 truck. Then I cover the crankshaft installation and use of plasti-gauge to verify the bearing clearances, using plasti-gauge is a second verification that proves my micrometer readings were correct.
