Granted it may not feel like our modern English of 2023. What makes this translation stand out is its balance between a formal and dynamic translation, often dubbed by scholars as an optimum translation. The original 1965 version also used as many ancient manuscripts as possible to make a dynamic translation from scratch. This is why the NIV gets revised almost on a schedule and why recent version have come under scrutiny for their choices. One skill that David is remembered for in scripture is his ability to play music and sing. He was often summoned by a troubled King Saul to play the lyre and wrote many of the Psalms to be sung. It is the Belt of Truth. The belt is an important piece to a soldier’s armor. It helps hold things together and is used as an anchor or foundation piece to attach many of the other armor pieces. It is not insignificant that Paul designates the belt for truth and not one of the other items. In God’s world there is absolute truth. In our secular world, truth is relative.
