However, Ephesians 6 is talking about spiritual warfare which is different than the Great Commission. The Romans often adapted superior technology into their armor designs when encountering an enemy with a better piece of equipment. This included putting studs in their shoes. In spiritual warfare we are to “stand firm” with these spiritual shoes “of the Gospel of Peace.” The Gospel of Peace is not evangelism but the Peace we now have with God since become a Christian. However there is a science that has continually confirmed Biblical history over and over again. The field of Archeology which seeks to uncover the mysteries of the past and confirm the known record continues to unearth evidence of people, cultures and events from the Bible. In this lesson Michael walks through the discovery of the Ipuwer Papyrus and its striking similarity to the events of the book of Exodus. The Ipuwer Papyrus seems to be an eye witness account from an Egyptian poet of several catastrophes that struck Egypt which mirror the widely known ten plagues of Egypt from the Bible. Using clues from scripture (1st Kings 6:1) we can approximate the date of the Exodus around 1440 BC which matches the approximate date of the papyrus (a large number of scholars place it around 1440 BC while others approximate it in ranges from 1290 to 1550 BC). This is another case of the science of archeology confirming the Biblical record of history. The theory of Uniformity developed in the 18th century by a Scottish geologist is what eventually gave birth to the theory of Evolution and the idea of an old earth with a long Geological Time Scale. Uniformity cannot be tested because of its long time scale. In contrast Catastrophism, a much older and easily observable geological view, takes the perspective that the earth is not as old and is geologically shaped by catastrophes such as floods, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. Not so much when it comes to disasters and failures. So what evidence is there for something as devastating as the plagues of Egypt? There is one discovery that gives us a possible insight into the plagues from an Egyptian perspective. Additionally, this lesson will cover the trek of the Hebrews through the wilderness until the Red Sea and the timeline of their escape. The following episodes will go over the crossing and Mount Sinai. NOTE ON NUWEIBA BEACH: The next episode will go more in depth into the actual crossing and differences in opinion on the location of the crossing. For viewers unaware of the ongoing debate around the crossing of the Red Sea, current scholars have argued about many locations including the Great Bitter Lake, the Gulf of Suez and other locations near the Sinai Peninsula. This debate is quite heated and although we expect there to be lively discussion and disagreements in the comments, this is your gentle reminder to be respectful and kind to the other person on the end of your screen. Furthermore, there is resistance to the idea of the crossing starting at Nuweiba beach because of a gentleman named Ron Wyatt. Ron Wyatt unfortunately lacked proper scientific methodology for his research and never provided sound evidence for his claims. His work and stories are considered fraudulent by the archaeological and biblical scholars’ communities. He should not be used as a scholarly source in Biblical Archaeology. Ron Wyatt also identified Nuweiba beach as the start of the Red Sea crossing, making many scholars doubt the credibility of the location because of Wyatt’s history. We believe this may be a case of a broken clock being right twice a day (Wyatt being the broken clock). As explained in the video, there are several reasons why the geography of Nuweiba beach makes it a good candidate for the crossing, regardless of Wyatt’s credibility. One of those discoveries was a bulla, also known as a clay seal that would have been used to seal letters. Hundreds of bullas have been found and they typically carry the symbol and name of the writer (such as a king, official, or scribe). This second lesson highlights the case for intelligent design within the scientific community, the scientific probability problems of evolutionary theory, the scriptural problems with the theistic evolution and God’s nature as a Creator based on descriptions from scripture. The popular narrative is that evolutionary theory is widely accepted as fact among scientists and even among Christian where theistic evolution is becoming more prominent. However there are many scientists, including atheists, who, when considering the mathematical probability and complexity of the universe, admit life is nothing short of a miracle and the existence of an intelligent designer is possible. Theistic evolution runs into conflict with Old and New Testament descriptions of God as a Creator. Evolutionary Theory runs into conflict with mathematics and scientific probability. The Bible is not a science textbook but it is essential for us to recognize when it is describing the natural world and the processes God has designed that we observe as physics, biology, meteorology and others.
