Tha Din Daeng Community & Market - Bangkok Thailand 2024
Tha Din Daeng is one of the oldest traditional market in Bangkok, Thailand. It has no clear evidence to show when it was established. It is believed to have been established during the early Ayutthaya period. This is a famous market because of the location of it which the Thais call “the golden place”.
Tha Din Daeng is located at Tha din dang Rd, Khet Khlong San, Bangkok. It is on the bank of the Chao Phraya River. This area are connect to Yarawit (China town), Sampeng and Pahurat which are important markets on the other side of the river.
In this Ayutthaya era, this area used to be breakpoint for cargo transport before sailing to Ayutthaya. The river route was long with many curves so this was an important location to switch boats from sea faring to river boats to make the rest of the journey.
During the early Bangkok era up to King Rama IV’s reign this area was an important industrial and shipping region.
Industry like rice mills, sawmills, warehouses and shipyards were all here. It was also where Chinese and Malay Muslims conducted business and later trade with Europeans took place.
Today the area is known for its historic market and important Chinese shrines. Many of the people in the area trade goods that are used in traditional foods and products.
This is a great area of the city. It has the feel of Chinatown but without the huge crowds.

Wat Phitchaya Yatikaram วัดพิชยญาติการาม 2nd Class Royal Temple - Thonburi Thailand 2024
Wat Phitchaya Yatikaram วัดพิชยญาติการาม is a 2nd class royal temple in Thonburi. It was restored around 1830 by Somdet Chao Phraya Borom Maha Pichaiyat (That Bunnag) during the reign of King Rama III. That Bunnag was a successful trader with China and the architecture of the temple reflects the Chinese influences that were fashionable during this time. A statue of him seated is in front of the temple. His wife built the adjacent Wat Anongkharam.
The most notable feature of the temple is the massive 42 meter tall prang. Inside the prang are four Buddha images are seated looking out at each of the cardinal directions. Smaller prangs east and west of the main prang house an image of the Maitrya Buddha (The future Buddha) in the east and footprints of the four Buddhas (The last four incarnations of the Buddha) to the west. The prangs also contain the ashes of That Bunnag’s family.
The inside of the ubosot is finely decorated with some beautiful paintings in Chinese style of maritime voyages on the main pillars. The main Buddha image Phra Sittharot is in Sukhothai style.
The temple is said to be the most beautiful temple in Thonburi. It is very nice and well worth a visit. It’s off the normal tourist trail so you won’t have massive crowds while you explore this historic site.

Princess Mother Memorial Park - Bangkok Thailand 2024
The Princess Mother Memorial Park อุทยานเฉลิมพระเกียรติสมเด็จพระศรีนครินทราบรมราชชนนี, often shortened to สวนสมเด็จย่าฯ, Suan Somdet Ya is a park in Bangkok, Thailand. It was established in 1993, and opened on January 21, 1997, by King Bhumibol Adulyadej, in remembrance of his mother, Srinagarindra, the Princess Mother.
The park contains gardens and a reproduction of the royal mother's childhood home, as well as two exhibition halls showing memorabilia of the princess and the royal family and a pavilion with a statue of the princess. There is also a souvenir shop which sells items from charitable foundations and social welfare organisations which used to be under her patronage; the profits go to help the poor and the destitute.
The park is in Khlong San District, close to the banks of the Chao Phraya River, near the south end of Phra Pok Klao Bridge, on Soi Somdet Chao Phraya 3, next to the Gong Wu Shrine.
This park is dedicated to the mother of King Rama IX, who is believed to have devoted her energy to improving the lives of Thai people.
A small green space in the city but still very nice. The information and pictures of the King’s mother and family are very informative. It’s worth an hour or two for a visit.

Wat Prayun - “Turtle Mountain Temple” - Second Class Royal Temple - Bangkok Thailand 2024
Wat Prayurawongsawat Worawihan, known in as Wat Prayun for short, is a 19th century Buddhist temple complex, located near the Memorial Bridge (Thonburi side) in Bangkok, Thailand.
The temple was built during the reign of King Rama III of the Thai Rattanakosin Kingdom. He was the king of Siam from 1824–1851. Rama III was the elder brother of Mongkut who succeeded him as King Rama IV in 1851.
Somdet Chao Phraya Borom Maha Prayurawongse (Tish Bunnag) dedicated his own coffee estate to build a royal temple. Hence the name "Prayurawongsawat" in his honour.
Wat Prayurawongsawat Worawihan is a "second class level" of royal temples.
The fair to celebrate temple's 190th anniversary was held in January 2018.
Moreover, at the Chao Phraya River in front of the temple during the Ayutthaya period, it was believed as the stop of Zheng He's fleets when he traveled to Siam at the mouth of Chao Phraya River.
Main Stupa, an ancient white stupa of the temple build in the reign of King Mongkut, inside contains the Buddha's relics. This stupa received UNESCO Cultural Heritage Conservation Award of Excellence in 2013.
Khao Mo, a replica mountain of temple is located in the middle of the large pond. It is a rock garden surrounded by a number of miniature chedis and stupas, cathedrals, pavilion, and rare plants. It has been a place of peace and tranquility in the monastery for more than 180 years. The word "Khao Mo" derives from the Khmer word “t’mor” meaning rock. It was created as a representative of cosmic mountain Mount Meru. It is considered the largest and oldest replica mountain in Thailand.
In the pond around this replica mountain is also the habitat of turtles and soft-shelled turtles as well. In Buddhism, turtles are sacred animals. Common Buddhism beliefs dictate that restraint should be made against killing this animal. It has led to the ceremony of releasing the turtles. In Buddhism, turtles represent creation, endurance, strength and longevity. And for this reason, this temple has an unofficial name for general person "Wat Khao Tao" ("turtle mountain temple"). Khao Mo is registered as an ancient monument by the Fine Arts Department in 1979.
Three-cannons monument, the three downward-facing cannons on the white pedestal. It was created as a memorial to the first surgical event in Siam (now's Thailand) by American missionary Dan Beach Bradley that occurred at this temple in the 1836. It was erected as a memorial to those who lost their lives in an accident caused by the explosion of a cannon that was used for a firework display during a celebration at the temple. The accident resulted in seven deaths and a number of casualties.
Phra Prayu Phantakhan Museum, the Buddha images museum was originally a dhamma studies hall. It was built in 1885 as a place for monks and novices to study Buddhist scriptures. Later in 1916, the former Ministry of Public Instruction used this hall as the first public library in Thailand. In 2007, ancient relics of the Buddha and antiquities were discovered, as a result, Buddha’s relics from Sri Lanka was enshrined here, along with Buddha images and Buddhist amulets which were excavated.
I show you around this amazing temple and you can see and feel a bit of Thai history.

Wat Hua Lamphong - The Coffin Temple - Bangkok Thailand 2024
Wat Hua Lamphong (วัดหัวลำโพง), popularly known as is the coffin temple (วัดโลงศพ), it’s an authentic Buddhist temple where various aspects of Thai culture, traditions, and beliefs are observed regularly. The temple is part of the third class royal temples in Thailand, affiliated with Theravada Buddhism.
Wat Hua Lamphong is located at Rama IV Road (ถนนพระรามที่ 4), which was constructed by King Rama IV. He ordered the digging of the canal to enable easier trade and transportation in the area. The name of thee road at the time was Hua Lamphong Road (ถนนหัวลำโพง). The name was changed in 1919 to the current Rama IV Road during the reign of King Rama VI in memory of King Rama IV who ordered its construction. It’s also 1 kilometer away from Hua Lampong railway station, the old main railway station in Bangkok, that connected the capital with the rest of the country.
The reason why the temple is also known as the coffin temple is the partnership between the temple and an organization called Ruamkatanyu Foundation. They work hand in hand with the together to provide burial services for poor, homeless people and those who pass away without any known relatives. Visitors make donations to the foundation to support this worthy cause.
Wat Hua Lamphong was founded during the Rattanakosin Kingdom (อาณาจักรรัตนโกสินทร์). The Rattanakosin Kingdom is the fourth and current established center of government in the history of Thailand (or Siam). It was officially founded on 21 April 1782 with the establishment of Rattanakosin Island (เกาะรัตนโกสินทร์), the historic center of Bangkok, as the capital city by King Rama I.
The temple was later renovated in 1996 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the ascension to the throne of King Bhumipol Adulyadej (กษัตริย์ภูมิพลอดุลยเดช), who became King on 9th June 1946 under the name of King Rama IX (พระรามที่ 9).
The temple is large and well maintained. It is also easy to get to by MRT with the Sam Yan station located right next to the entrance. It’s worth a visit for anyone that enjoys Thai temples.

Erawan Shrine - Bangkok Thailand - Popular Hindu Shrine
The Erawan Shrine, formally the Thao Maha Phrom Shrine ศาลท้าวมหาพรหม 'shrine of Lord Maha Brahma', is a shrine in Bangkok, Thailand, which houses a statue of Phra Phrom, the Thai representation of Brahma, the Hindu god of creation. The name also refer to Mahabrahma, the ruler of the Brahma realm in Buddhist cosmology.
The shrine often features performances by Thai dance troupes who are hired by worshippers in return for seeing their prayers answered at the shrine.
Five other shrines dedicated to Hindu deities are located in the area as well: Phra Laksami (Lakshmi), Phra Trimurati (Trimurti), Phra Khanet (Ganesha), Phra In (Indra), and Phra Narai Song Suban (Narayana on his garuda).
The Erawan Shrine was built in 1956 as part of the government-owned Erawan Hotel to eliminate the bad karma believed caused by laying the foundations on the wrong date.
The hotel's construction was delayed by a series of mishaps, including cost overruns, injuries to laborers, and the loss of a shipload of Italian marble intended for the building. Furthermore, the Ratchaprasong intersection had once been used to put criminals on public display.
An astrologer advised building the shrine to counter the negative influences. The Brahma statue was designed and built by the Department of Fine Arts and enshrined on 9 November 1956. The hotel's construction thereafter proceeded without further incident. In 1987, the hotel was demolished and the site used for the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel.
In the early hours of 21 March 2006, a young man named Thanakorn Pakdeepol destroyed the statue with a large hammer. He was then beaten to death by angry bystanders.
An identical statue of Brahma was placed in the shrine on 21 May 2006 at 11:39, at the instant the sun was directly overhead.
On 17 August 2015, at 18:55 local time, an explosive device composed of three kilograms of TNT stuffed in a metal pipe and wrapped in white cloth inside a backpack was detonated near the Erawan Shrine, killing 20 bystanders and injuring 125.
The bomb had been placed in the shrine grounds next to a metal railing. The statue itself was slightly damaged. It was repaired in two days and reopened to the public.
Beginning March 2020, incense and candles were no longer allowed to be lit at the shrine, due to health and environmental concerns.
The shrine is a very popular place for locals and tourists to visit. If you are in the area it’s worth a visit.

Port FC vs Prachuap Khiri Khan - Road Trip to the Sea - Thai League Football February 2024
Thais are very passionate about football. Port FC fans are among the most passionate in the league and they love to travel to support the team.
In this video we take a ride on a mini bus with the Port FC super fans to Pratchup Khiri Khan. It’s a coastal city about 4 to 5 hours south of Bangkok. It’s famous for being the home of the 3 bays. In addition to the 3 bays, featuring some very nice beaches, the town has a very traditional seaside with old wooden homes and businesses. Prachuap Khiri Khan is a great place to spend a few days relaxing on the beach and eating fresh seafood.
Along the way I show you some of the Thai countryside before stopping at an amazing beach, Ao Manow.
No road trip with Thai football fans would be complete without a stop at a temple to make merit before a game.

Ao Manao Beach อ่าวมะนาว - Beautiful & Relaxed Atmosphere - Thailand 2024
Ao Manao อ่าวมะนาว meaning "Lime Bay", is a bay in the west side of the Gulf of Thailand. It is five kilometres to the south of Prachuap Khiri Khan.
The bay lies south of Prachuap Bay. It is open towards the east and is bounded by steep limestone outcrops forming peninsulas to the north and to the south. There are two islands in the bay, Ko Lueam about 3.6 km offshore and smaller Ko Aen, about 1.5 km off the beach within the bay.
Ao Manao is a great beach which is a popular tourist destination. It can be reached by road through the Wing 5 Royal Thai Air Force base.
The beach is one of my favorite beaches on the east coast of Thailand. With it being on the air force base it is a super clean beach. The back of the beach is also lined with plenty of shade trees making it a great place to relax. With the popularity of the beach there are many food options as well.
I would recommend stopping by if you are in the area. You will not be disappointed.

Wat Chomphuwek วัดชมภูเวก - Nonthaburi Thailand - Historic 350 Year Old Mon Temple
Wat Chomphuwek วัดชมภูเวก also spelled Wat Chumpoo Wek is a Thai Buddhist temple in the Mahā Nikāya sect, located in Nonthaburi Province, central Thailand. It is considered one of the oldest and most prominent temples in Nonthaburi. It is over 350 years old as well having some amazing historic murals painted on the inside of the ancient halls. The architecture of the buildings is some of the most beautiful you will see from this period.
Wat Chomphuwek is a monastery that was believed to have been built by a Mon monk named Poh Phu Si Chomphu พ่อปู่ศรีชมภู in the late Ayutthaya period corresponding to the reign of King Narai the Great around the year 1682. Originally, it was called Wat Chomphuwiwek วัดชมภูวิเวก but later people just called it Wat Chomphuwek.
Its name means "Lonely Temple of Chomphu", or may translate as "High Temple of Chomphu" because it is located on a small hill.
The wall in the old ordination hall is decorated with mural painting describing the Ten Great Birth Stories of the Buddha. The highlight is mural painting of Phra Mae Thorani (goddess of the earth according to Buddhist beliefs) twisting her hair above the entrance, which is said to be the most beautiful Phra Mae Thorani mural in the world.
Another highlight is the chedi (Buddhist pagoda) built in the Mon-style called Phra Mu Tao พระมุเตา. It is believed to have been constructed in year 1917. Buddha relics are also believed to be found inside making this a holy Buddhist site.
After Seeing this temple i would mark it on anyones “to do list” while in Bangkok if you appreciate historic sites. It really is a hidden gem.

Port FC vs Police Tero- Road Trip to Start the 2nd Half of the Season - February 11, 2024
Port FC hit the road to travel north to Police Tero. They are cross town rivals and an easy road trip for Port fans. The atmosphere is much more subdued than at PAT Stadium but that doesn’t change the expectations of the Port squad.
Port started the season hosting Police Tero and they start the second half on the road. Port sits in 4th place, 8 points back of table leading Bangkok United. Police has had some internal issues with player pay and have faltered from last years showing and sit in 9th place in the table.
With that Port expects a good showing and 3 points at the end of the night. So let’s explore the stadium, the local area and hope we get a good game out of it.

King Narai Festival - Lopburi Thailand 2024 - One of the Best Festivals in Thailand
The King Narai Reign Fair is an annual Lopburi festival that celebrates the reign of King Narai the Great who ruled the Kingdom of Ayutthaya from 1656 to 1688.
He is regarded as the greatest Thai king of that era establishing both commercial and diplomatic relations with European and middle eastern countries, particularly France.
King Narai lived in the city making it his capital nine months out of the year. After Narai’s death in 1688, the French influence in Ayutthaya declined and they were eventually expelled from the kingdom.
The fair is held in the ancient King Narai Palace and runs for nine days. There are a host of interesting events and activities to
enjoy. This year’s fair will run from the 9th to the 18th of February, 2024.
The center of festivities is the King Narai Palace, also known as Phra Narai Ratchanivet.
Other venues nearby are Prang Khaek, Wat Phrasi Rattana Mahathat & Vichayen House. All of the venues are free to enter for both foreigners and Thais during the festival.
The highlight of the King Narai Reign Fair is the opening day parade. The parade includes hundreds of locals all are dressed in period or traditional Thai clothing. There are soldiers, french diplomats, farmers, classical dancers, marching bands, horses and more.
In addition to the shows there is lots of food and other items on sale. The ancient ruins are lit up making it a great backdrop for photos as well as a unique way to explore these historic sites. It’s probably the best fair in all of Thailand and well worth a visit if possible.

The architecture of the Viharas In the temple were Influenced by Mahayana or

The Viharas consist of 3 Buddhas; the past, the present and the future. There is also a statue of Chinese goddess, Guan Yin Bodhisttava which is carved from a whole tree. She Is a major goddess of the Mahayana sect.
Wat Boromracha Kanchanapisek Anusorn Is usually crowded with people who come to

zodlac year. If it is your birth year under the Chinese calendar worshipers will come to perform the “washing away bad luck” ceremony.
The temple is full of details and in interesting part of Thailand. It’s relatively new in terms of Thai temples but worth a visit. I would recommend to anyone that has time to see this temple and to also take a look at Wat Mangkon in Chinatown to compare the new to the old.
Visiting this temple is always fun and with it being Chinese New Year it was even better.

Chinese New Year - Bangkok 2024 - The Year of the Dragon Celebrations
Chinese New Year in Bangkok 2024 on Yaowarat Road.
Chinese New Year in Bangkok brings one of the most exhilarating celebrations to Yaowarat Road in the middle of Bangkok’s Chinatown. The entire street comes to life with crowds of worshippers, exploding firecrackers, and dragon dancers. This time of year, families of Chinese descent gather to join in the street celebrations.
This annual event usually takes place around January or February, with exact dates calculated from the Chinese Lunar Calendar.
On New Year’s Day, parents will hand red envelopes called ang pao (containing money) to their unmarried children. Most people start visiting their extended families and relatives to exchange a few oranges and ang pao, as well as wishing them a Happy Chinese New Year.
Chinese New Year is one of the most exhilarating times of the year, with dynamic sights and sounds. Shopowners of Chinese descent decorate their places with red paper lanterns, Chinese calligraphy banners, and posters.
Bangkok Chinatown hosts street fanfares and cultural festivities, including dragon parades, acrobatic dances, and firecrackers. On Chinese New Year’s Day, Wat Mangkon Kamalawat (formerly named Leng Noei Yi Temple) on Charoen Krung Street is packed with locals praying to deities.
Chinese New Year is always a great time and a must see if you are in the city during this time. The crowds are huge and the energy is amazing.

Largest Night Market in Bangkok - Kasertsart University Annual Fair - Thailand 2024
The annual market fair is at Kasert (Kasertsart) University in the Chatuchak area of Bangkok. The fair is held at the end of January to the start of February every year. It’s located next to the Sukumvit (light green) BTS line, the Kasert University station.
A great time to go and sample Thai street foods as well as enjoy an evening of shopping and carnival games with the locals. The amount of food vendors is amazing with something for any taste.
The fair is massive so plan on spending an evening taking in everything.

Wat Mongkhon - Chinese New Year 2024 - Bangkok’s Largest Chinese Temple
Wat Mangkon Kamalawat วัดมังกรกมลาวาส, previously (and still commonly) known as Wat Leng Noei Yi วัดเล่งเน่ยยี่, simplified Chinese: 龙莲寺; traditional Chinese: 龍蓮寺, is the largest and most important Chinese Buddhist temple in Bangkok, Thailand.
Wat Mangkon Kamalawat was founded as a Mahayana Buddhist temple in 1871 or 1872, by Phra Archan Chin Wang Samathiwat (also known as Sok Heng), initially with the name Wat Leng Noei Yi. It was later given its current name, Wat Mangkon Kamalawat, meaning "Dragon Lotus Temple", by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V).
It is located in the district of Pom Prap Sattru Phai in the city's Chinatown, in a courtyard off Charoen Krung Road. It is served by Wat Mangkon MRT station which is located in front of the temple.
The temple is built in a classic Chinese architectural style, with typical sweeping tiled roofs decorated with animal and floral motifs, including the ubiquitous Chinese dragons. The ubosot (ordination hall) houses the temple's main, gold colored, Buddha image in a fusion of Thai and Chinese style, and is fronted by an altar at which religious rites are performed.
The main entrance to the viharn (sermon hall) is flanked by large statues of the four guardians of the world, the Chatulokkaban, clothed in warrior costumes, two on each side. Around the temple there are shrines dedicated to a variety of Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian deities and religious figures, all important in local Chinese beliefs.
The temple is a must see if you come to Chinatown. It’s popular for Thais as well as tourists to visit.

Wat Khok Phrayaram วัดโคกพระยาราม - Ayutthaya Thailand
Wat Khok Phrayaram (วัดโคกพระยาราม)
Wat Khok Phrayaram is a restored ruin located off the city island in the Phukhao Thong plains 2 Km north of Ayutthaya. Wat Phu Khao Thong and the Naresuan Memorial lie in its immediate vicinity.
Historians thought initially that this site was the location where a number of Ayutthayan Royals were executed following the old Chronicles of Ayutthaya; but excavations in situ excluded this thesis. The important historical site where these executions occurred, is Wat Khok Phraya; located in the vicinity of Wat Na Phra Men and Wat Hatsadawat on the north bank of the old Lopburi River.
Probably to make a distinction regarding the two identical named sites, the ruin in the Phu Khao Thong Fields has had "aram" added to its name; a comparative and superlative form in Sanskrit; Wat Khok Phrayaram meaning as thus the "Greater Monastery of the Mound of the Nobles".
We find though in the Royal Chronicles of Ayutthaya the name of Wat Khok Phraya
mentioned. The Burmese under King Tabeng Shwe Thi - the founder of the second Burmese Empire - invaded Siam in 1549 via the Three Pagodas Pass (Phra Chedi Sam Ong) and Kanburi (in the vicinity of present Kanchanaburi).
The Burmese army arrived north of Ayutthaya and put its stockades up in the Lumphli plains. Khok Phrayaram was the location where King Chakkraphat set up his army formations to engage the Burmese in battle. In the fight Queen Suriyothai was killed by the King of Prae, when trying to help out her husband, when his
elephant lost position in combat.
Here is a descriptionof the battle from the Royal Chronicles of Ayutthaya.
"At a time of the lunar day of great auspiciousness, the Reverend Astrologer
struck a victory gong, the conch shell trumpets resounded, the drums of Indra throbbed, and King Cakkraphat set forth with the royal elephant and crossed the river. The Chief Queen and both of the Princes followed in the retinue of the
King. The elephant guards, crowding around and supporting the troop of elephants as they moved in a large crowd, some of whom capered and
danced along, advanced in the lead. There were soldiers riding at their posts on the elephants’ necks and carrying guns and long handled elephant hooks
in their hands, and mahouts at their posts on the rear of each animal. Each elephant was hemmed in on all sides by lines of guards. Then, following the procession of the war elephant guards, came the companies of brave foot soldiers, carrying swords, shields, bucklers, javelins, great spears, paired spears, banners, tasseled lances, bows, and firearms, and crowded together to the right and the left, front and behind. The sound of the marching soldiers and elephants shook the earth as though it would collapse.
King Cakkraphat, halting his royal elephant,
collected his soldiers and elephant troops and set up positions in formation at Khok Phraya."
Historical data about the monastery and its construction are unknown. The site is small and not very impressive. It’s only worth a visit if you want to explore these old ruins surrounding the former capital.

Sri Maja Mariamman - Oldest Hindu Temple in Bangkok -Thailand 2024
Sri Maha Mariamman Temple அருள்மிகு ஶ்ரீ மஹாமாரி அம்மன் கோவில் also known as Maha Uma Devi Temple วัดพระศรีมหาอุมาเทวี Wat Phra Si Maha Umathewi and Wat Khaek (วัดแขก) in Thai, is a South Indian architecture style Hindu temple on Si Lom Road in Bangkok, Thailand. It was built in 1879 by Vaithi Padayatchi, a Tamil Hindu immigrant.
Following India becoming a colony of the British Empire in 1858 many from the southern state of Tamil Nadu preferred to leave their country than live under colonial rule. One such group of Indians came to Bangkok, many as traders of gemstones or cattle ranchers. A leader of this group of Indians was Vaithi Padayatchi who built this temple about a decade after they arrived and a street in Silom is named after him - Soi Vaiti known in English as Vithy Lane.
The temple's facade is in strikingly florid style of a riot of different colours with carved images of various gods and goddesses in different shapes and sizes. At the entrance to the temple there is a gopura or tower 6 metres in height and covered with many carved images of deities. The main shrine of the temple complex is a dome with covering of a gilded copper plate. Within the premises of the temple complex there are three shrines dedicated to Ganesh, Kartik and the main shrine of Sri Maha Mariamman. The practice of worship followed by the devotees is sequentially Ganesh, Kartik and then the main deity.

Tha Kha - Authentic Thai Floating Market ตลาดน้ำท่าคา - Thailand 2024
If you’re looking for a less hectic floating market experience with an authentic local feel,Tha Kha Floating Market is a market to consider. Tha Kha Floating Market is located in Samut Songkhram province, about an hour's drive from Bangkok. It is one of the most relaxing and local floating markets you can visit.
Originally, the market was only open for 4 – 5 days, depending on the phase of the moon. Nowadays, it’s open on the weekends as well. Still to this day, the canal and market are used as a place for the locals to trade and sell local products, most of which are food.
The main thing locals do to earn a living is agriculture, which has been passed down from generation to generation. They wake up very early in the morning to work and hide away from the sun during the day. With this it is best to go to Tha Kha Floating Market in the morning, because most vendors are closed by noon.
Tha Kha Floating Market (ตลาดน้ำท่าคา) is a relaxing local floating market. It is much different from the larger and more well known markets that are teeming with tourists. Here, you’ll find a good amount of vendors selling food from boats, along with a hige variety of fresh fruits and produce sold at stalls along the canalside or from boats.

Bang Noi Floating Market - Samut Songkhram Thailand 2024
Bang Noi Floating Market in Samut
Songkhram
A short distance north of Amphawa there is another riverside market that has been trying to revive its old community. This is Bang Noi Floating Market that straddles a canal of the same name on the Mae Klong River. There has been a market here for more than one hundred years and at one time hundreds of market vendors and locals used to gather here to buy and sell goods. They used to meet on certain days during the month depending on the lunar calendar. When they started building roads in this region the number of people visiting this market dwindled until it nearly died out completely.
After the success of the late afternoon market at Amphawa, the local government here decided to do something to revive Bang Noi Floating Market. They invested money into the local community to pay for renovations and infrastructure like walkways and bridges. Although it doesn’t get as busy as Amphawa, it still has a lot of charm and things of interest. The small numbers allow you to walk comfortably up and down the canalside walkways and visit the shops without interruptions.
Bang Noi Floating Market is open during the day and starts to wind down in the late afternoon at about the same time as Amphawa starts to get busy. So, if you are looking for somewhere to eat lunch while waiting for Amphawa to open then you might want to consider Bang Noi. It is open every Saturday and Sunday from about 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Wat Bang Kung and Military Camp วัดบางกุ้ง - Unique Temple - Samut Songkhram Thailand
Wat Bang Kung วัดบางกุ้ง is an ancient temple in Samut Songkhram, Thailand. It was built in the Ayutthaya period. It was the site of the Battle of Bang Kung between the Konbaung Dynasty of Burma and the Thonburi Kingdom that is now Thailand.
Archaeological evidence from the Ubosot (Ordination Hall) determine it was built in the Ayutthaya period. It is covered with roots of four plants; Pho (Bodhi), Sai (Banyan), Krai, and Krang. These roots and trees help the hall to stay stable. It is also called Bot Prok Pho. There is a statue of the Buddha enshrined in the hall commonly called Luang Phot Bot Noi. Inside the hall, there is a mural of a story about the Buddha. The Fine Arts Department registered Wat Bang Kung as a national archaeological site on December 18, 1996.
During the Ayutthaya period in 1765, Burmese troops attacked Ayutthaya. Somdet Phra Chao Yu Hua Phra Thi Nang Suriyat Amarin (King of Ayutthaya) commanded the navy to encamp and build a wall around Wat Bang Kung. The temple in the middle of the camp was used as a spirit center for the soldiers. Burmese troops moved along the Maeklong river until they found Bang Kung Camp. The army of Ayutthaya could not resist the attack and the camp was destroyed.
In 1767, after King Taksin (King of Thonburi) regained the country's independence, he commanded the Chinese from Rayong, Chon Buri, Ratchaburi, and Kanchanaburi to form a guard to protect the camp and called it Bang Kung Chinese Camp.
In 1768, Burmese troops led by Burmese king of Angwa, ordered his army and navy to besiege Bang Kung Chinese camp again. Chinese troops fought and were on the brink of defeat until Taksin found out about the battle. Taksin and Maha Sura Singhanat jointly fought and defeated the Burmese. This victory is instrumental in Thailand still being an independent nation.
The temple is a unique place and popular for photographers to use as a background. It is important in Thai history and worth a short visit.

Surat Thani Night Market - Talat San Jao - Thailand 2023
Surat Thani Night Market takes place every evening between around 5:00 to 9:00. This nightly event is very popular with the locals. If you are in Surat Thani for the night or waiting for the Night Boat to depart go along to look and eat some really interesting and authentic Thai food at very cheap prices.
Markets in Thailand traditionally are focal points of local community life and entertainment, and this is very much the case with Surat Thani Night Market. Its fun and a good opportunity to see the ‘real’ Thailand. It is also an opportunity to eat authentic Southern Thai food which you will not generally find in restaurants. There is also a range of foods which are foreign influenced and less spicy such as salads, sushi and fried chicken.
Surat Thani Night Market stretches along a pedestrianised stretch of road about 200 meters. The stalls are crammed in side by side along both sides of the road giving people a choice of around 150 different food stalls.
The night market is a great place to go. Since it’s in the evening you are out of the day time heat. You can also relax with some cool drinks to enjoy the evening.
