Khari Baoli Spice Market is a massive market near the Red Fort in Old Delhi. It’s a scene of chaos, smells and sounds. It’s a sight to see for anyone wanting a glimpse of what India is like. Khari Baoli is Asia's largest spice market, and its charm is the aromatic and colorful array of spices, herbs, dried fruits, and nuts that fill the air with their fragrances. You can smell the market from quite a distance away. It’s a short walk or Tuk Tuk ride from the metro and worth a look. The Qutb Minar, also spelled Qutub Minar and Qutab Minar, is a minaret and "victory tower" that forms part of the Qutb complex, which lies at the site of Delhi's oldest fortified city, Lal Kot, founded by the Tomar Rajputs. It consists of 399 steps. The Qutb Minar was built over the ruins of the Lal Kot, the citadel of Dhillika. Qutub Minar was begun after the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque. Drawing references from their Ghurid homeland, Qutub-ud-Din Aibak and Shamsu’d-Din Iltutmish constructed a minar (minaret) at the south-eastern corner of the Quwwatu’l-Islam between 1199 and 1503. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Mehrauli area of South Delhi, India. It is one of the most visited tourist spots in the city, mostly built between 1199 and 1220. It can be compared to the 62 meter all brick Minaret of Jam in Afghanistan, of  1190, which was constructed a decade or so before the probable start of the Delhi tower. It is usually thought that the tower is named for Qutb-ud-din Aibak, who began it. It is also possible that it is named after Khwaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaki a 13th-century sufi saint, because Shamsuddin Iltutmish was a devotee of his. The site is worth a visit. Old Delhi is an area in the Central Delhi district of Delhi, India. It was founded as a walled city named Shahjahanabad in 1648, when Shah Jahan (the Mughal emperor at the time) decided to shift the Mughal capital from Agra. The construction of the city was completed in 1648, and it remained the capital of Mughal India until its fall in 1857, when the British Empire took over as paramount power in the Indian subcontinent. It serves as the symbolic heart of metropolitan Delhi and is known for its bazaars, street food, shopping locations and its Islamic architecture; Jama Masjid being the most notable example, standing tall in the midst of the old city. Only a few havelis are left and maintained. The surrounding walls, 12 feet (3.7 m) wide and 26 feet (7.9 m) tall, originally of mud, were replaced by red stone in 1657. In the Mughal period, the gates were kept locked at night. The walls have now largely disappeared, but most of the gates are still present. The main street, now termed Chandni Chowk, runs from the Red Fort to Fatehpuri Masjid. Originally a canal ran through the middle of the street. Lining the main road are shops selling clothes, jewelry, food and much more. There are also numerous side alleys with shops that attract huge crowds of visitors. In the Jangpura District of South Delhi is the Bhogal Buddha Vihar Temple. It’s approximately 100 years old and is the gathering place for the small community of Thais that live in the city. During Songkron, the Thai New Years Celebration, they all gathered to celebrate. The temple is part of the community and this was shown with donating food and drinks to the people in need. In addition they had a traditional celebration with activities like water splashing for the kids. The traditional celebration included chanting with the monks, worshiping the ancestors and pouring water on the hands of the monks. These are the traditional activities for the Thai New Year. In addition to the Thai residents of the area the Thai ambassador came to take part with her fellow countrymen. It was fun to participate with Thais that are living away from home. The Agra Fort (Qila Agra) is a historical fort in the city of Agra, and also known as Agra's Red Fort. Mughal emperor Humayun was crowned at this fort. It was later renovated by the Mughal emperor Akbar from 1565 and the present-day structure was completed in 1573. It served as the main residence of the rulers of the Mughal dynasty until 1638, when the capital was shifted from Agra to Delhi. It was also known as the "Lal-Qila" or "Qila-i-Akbari". Before being captured by the British, the last Indian rulers to have occupied it were the Marathas. In 1983, the Agra fort was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its importance during the Mughal Dynasty. It is about 2.5 kilometers (1.6 mi) northwest of its more famous sister monument, the Taj Mahal. The fort can be more accurately described as a walled city. It was later renovated by Shah Jahan. Only about 30% of the site is accessible for visitors since it’s still used by the Indian army. What is accessible is a real treat to see. The Taj Mahal 'Crown of the Palace' is an ivory-white marble mausoleum on the right bank of the river Yamuna in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was commissioned in 1631 by the fifth Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan (1628–1658) to house the tomb of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal; it also houses the tomb of Shah Jahan himself. The tomb is the centrepiece of a 17-hectare (42-acre) complex, which includes a mosque and a guest house, and is set in formal gardens bounded on three sides by a crenellated wall. Construction of the mausoleum was essentially completed in 1643, but work continued on other phases of the project for another 10 years. The first ceremony held at the mausoleum was an observance by Shah Jahan, on 6 February 1643, of the 12th anniversary of the death of Mumtaz Mahal. The mausoleum was opened at that time to thousands of mourners. The Taj Mahal complex is believed to have been completed in its entirety in 1653 at a cost estimated at the time to be around ₹32 million, which in 2023 would be approximately ₹35 billion (US$498 million). The construction project employed some 20,000 artisans under the guidance of a board of architects led by Ustad Ahmad Lahori, the emperor's court architect. The Taj Mahal is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the 7 manmade wonders of the modern world. The Red Fort or Lal Qila is a historic fort in the Old Delhi neighbourhood of Delhi, India, that historically served as the main residence of the Mughal emperors. Emperor Shah Jahan commissioned construction of the Red Fort on 12 May 1638, when he decided to shift his capital from Agra to Delhi. Originally red and white, Shah Jahan's favorite colours, its design is credited to architect Ustad Ahmad Lahori, who also constructed the Taj Mahal. The fort lies along the Yamuna River, which fed the moats surrounding most of the walls. Construction began in the sacred Islamic month of Muharram, on 13 May 1638. Supervised by Shah Jahan, it was completed on 6 April 1648. Unlike other Mughal forts, the Red Fort's boundary walls are asymmetrical to contain the older Salimgarh Fort. The fort represents the peak in the Mughal architecture under Shah Jahan and combines Persian palace architecture with Indian traditions. The fortress-palace was a focal point of the city of Shahjahanabad, which is present-day Old Delhi. Shah Jahan's successor, Aurangzeb, added the Moti Masjid (Pearl Mosque) to the emperor's private quarters, constructing barbicans in front of the two main gates to make the entrance to the palace more circuitous. The fort was plundered of its artwork and jewels during Nader Shah's invasion of the Mughal Empire in 1739. Most of the fort's marble structures were subsequently demolished by the British following the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The fort's defensive walls were largely undamaged, and the fortress was subsequently used as a garrison. The Red Fort was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007 as part of the Red Fort Complex. The site is massive and one of the must see places in Delhi. The Temple was inaugurated on 5 April, 1998 by the then Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the presence of former Chief Minister of Delhi Sahib Singh Verma and Sushma Swaraj. It is located at Hare Krishna Hills (near Nehru Place), in the East of Kailash area of New Delhi, India. ISKCON Temple, designed and built by Achyut Kanvinde who in 1993 agreed to accept a pro-bono commission to build this temple complex for the followers of Srila Prabhupada. It is one of the largest temple complexes in India. It comprises numerous rooms for priests and for religious services. The temple also has a 375 seat auditorium which is used for cultural and religious functions. The Glory of India Vedic Cultural Centre holds the 'Astounding Bhagavad Gita', which is the largest printed book of the major text of any world religion. The Italian printed 'Astounding Bhagavad Gita', weighs 800 kg and measures over 2.8 meters. It was unveiled by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, on 26 February, 2019. The Lotus Temple, located in New Delhi, India, is a Baháʼí House of Worship that was dedicated in December 1986. Notable for its lotus like shape, it has become a prominent attraction in the city. Like all Bahá’í Houses of Worship, the Lotus Temple is open to all, regardless of religion or any other qualification. The building is composed of 27 free-standing marble-clad "petals" arranged in clusters of three to form nine sides, with nine doors opening onto a central hall with a height of slightly over 34 meters and a capacity of 1,300 people. The architect of the Lotus Temple was an Iranian, Fariborz Sahba. He was approached in 1976 to design the Lotus Temple and later oversaw its construction. The temple was constructed over the course of 18 months and at a cost of $10.56 million. The major part of the funds needed to buy this land was donated by Ardishír Rustampúr of Hyderabad, Sindh (Pakistan), whose will stipulated that his entire life savings would go towards the building of the temple. Rúhíyyih Khánum laid the foundation stone for the Lotus Temple on 19 October 1977 and dedicated the temple on 24 December 1986. The temple was opened to the public on 1 January 1987 and more than 10,000 people visited that day. The Baháʼí Faith teaches that a Baháʼí House of Worship should be a space for people of all religions to gather, reflect, and worship. Anyone may enter the Lotus Temple irrespective of religious background, gender, or other distinctions, as is the case with all Baháʼí Houses of Worship. The temple's shape has symbolic and inter-religious significance because the lotus is often associated with purity, sacredness, spirituality, and knowledge. It has a spiritual significance in India. The surface of the House of Worship is made of white marble from Penteli mountain in Greece, the same marble used in the construction of many ancient monuments (including the Parthenon). By late 2001, The Lotus Temple had attracted more than 70 million visitors. The permanent delegation of India to UNESCO stated that the Lotus Temple had received over 100 million visitors by April 2014. The Lotus Temple has become a major attraction for people of various religions, with up to 100,000 visitors on some holidays. Estimates for the number of visitors annually range from 2.5 million to 5 million. In 2001 that it was to be the "most visited building in the world". Wat Muang contains Thailand's Biggest Buddha The golden Buddha statue at the Wat Muang Monastery is the tallest in Thailand, and the ninth-tallest in the world. It is said that those who touch the Big Buddha’s right hand are blessed with luck. Known formally as Mahaminh Sakayamunee Visejchaicharn, informally as Phra Buddha Maha Nawamin, and simply as the Big Buddha, Wat Muang’s Buddha stands at an eye-watering 92 meters tall and 63 meters wide. Completed in 2008, the enormous statue towers above the surrounding, sparsely populated farmland. As the original Wat Muang was destroyed during the ransacking of the former Thai capital Ayutthaya by the Burmese in the 18th century, the temple’s exact origins are unknown. After years of work, the reconstruction of Wat Muang was completed in 1982. In 1990, work started on the Big Buddha and was completed 18 years later, costing around 131 million Thai Baht (around $3.75 million). The giant concrete structure is finished with gold paint and casts its shadow over not only the Wat Muang monastery and temple, but also the surrounding “Hell Garden” featuring statues depicting various scenes from Buddhist Hell. Other nearby sculptures on display memorialize the Gods and Kings and Thailand and commemorate events from the Burmese-Siamese War. As well as the garden, visitors can enjoy the Viharn Kaew (glass ordination hall), a chamber decorated from floor to ceiling with mirrored mosaic tiles that houses a Buddha made of solid silver. As Ang Thong is a region in Thailand that plays host to a small amount of tourists compared with the likes of Bangkok, Chiang Mai and the Southern Gulf, it can be quite difficult to get to Wat Muang but the trip is well worth the effort. Originally located near the Chatuchak Weekend Market on State Railway of Thailand land it has since relocated to Srinagarindra Road. The night market is open for 4 days of the week, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The markets focus on antiques and vintage-style items, especially clothing and home accessories, as well as a large variety of food and drink. Its primary location on Srinagarindra Road has been ranked the most popular night market in Bangkok. The market was founded by Pairod Roikaew, previously an antiques dealer, in 2010. It was located on part of the SRT's railway yard on Kamphaeng Phet Road, among unused warehouses, tracks and rolling stock (hence the name). A second branch next to The Esplanade shopping centre was opened on Ratchadaphisek Road in 2015. This location was forced to close due to contract issues with the land owner. They relocated to behind Central Rama IX and renamed it Jood Fairs. In 2023 they opened another location in the Chatuchak area under the name Jood Fairs Dan Neramit. This location is now known as as the Trwin Night Market Dan Neramit under the same umbrella as the popular market on Srinagarindra Road. The market is near the Sukumvit BTS as well as the blue MRT lines and is very easy to get to. The iconic castle that sits in the front is a popular Instagram spot. Koh Mak lies between the islands Koh Chang and Koh Kood. With its 16 square kilometers, Koh Mak is the smallest of the Three islands. Approximately 700 people live permanently on the island. Inland are mainly coconut and rubber plantations. Koh Mak is mostly flat, with the advantage that you can easily explore the island by motorcycle. Koh Mak still has an authentic Thai feel, which is where the majority of visitors will come for. The biggest draw of the island are the beaches. With few tourists you can find an isolated spot to spend your days without any difficulty. The sunsets are visible from many places on the island like Ao Kao Beach but the best place is the restaurant at the TaLay Time Resort. It’s located an a small cape near the Ao Nid Pier. This is a little known but very beautiful temple compound north of the moat enclosing the old town. It was originally the site of the first Buddhist temple in northern Thailand, dating from 541, long before the old city's foundation. Queen Chamathewi is said to have prayed here often and was cremated here when she died. The original buildings have long since disappeared and those in Wat Sun Pa Yang Luang, its modern replacements, have been constructed in the last two decades. The compound contains a few wihans and shrines in the classic Lanna architectural style. The elegant smaller shrines feature layered, sloping dark roofs with gold trimmed edges. Many multi tiered white chedis stand in the yard, as well as a huge bell tower. The buildings are all ornately decorated with sculpted figures of Buddhist angels, elephants, nagas and dragon headed lions. Located between the main road to Chiang Mai and the railway line, it is seldom visited by tourists, but well worth it to see classic temple art that has survived into the modern age. Enjoy the video! Wat Phra That Hariphunchai วัดพระธาตุหริภุญชัย is a Buddhist temple (wat) in Lamphun, Thailand. The temple's origins date from the 11th century but the central stupa is thought to originate in the 9th century. According to history, in 897, King Athitayarat of the Raman Dynasty, who ruled Lamphun, built a gold urn covered with relics inside that has been reinforced in many subsequent periods. Later, in 1443, King Tilokarat of Chiang Mai renovated the chedi to be a new Lankan style that appears today. Phra Suwan Chedi or Pathumwadi Chedi is located on the right side of Phra Borommathat and was constructed in the 12th century by Queen Pathumwadi, consort of King Athitayarat 4 years after Phra Borommathat was completed. Phra Suwan Chedi is a square prang shape of the Lavo style. In the 1930s temple renovations were made by the northern Thai monk Khru Ba Sriwichai. The unusual pyramid shaped, 46 m high Chedi Suwanna, in the northwest of the compound, is in the Dvaravati-style of the Haripunchai period and believed to be modeled on similar stupas at nearby Wat Chama Thewi (Wat Kukut). The chedi is featured on the reverse of the one-satang coin. This is one of 24 first class royal temples in all of Thailand. These are special temples located in different regions of Thailand. Wat Phra That Lampang Luang - 13th Century Temple with Beautiful Lanna Styling The Wat Phra That Lampang Luang is one of the most highly revered temples in Thailand. According to legend the Buddha once visited the site some 2,500 years ago and donated a hair. The hair is now enshrined in the temple’s large chedi. The temple was founded in the 13th century. Its name translates to “the temple of Lampang’s Great Buddha Relic”. The architecture is a mix of Lanna and Thai Lu styles. The Wat Phra That Lampang Luang is a fortified temple or wiang; it was built on top of an earth mound and is surrounded by high brick walls. In the early 18th century when Lampang and the temple were occupied by the Burmese. It was later freed by a group of 300 local people led by a man named Thippachak, whose statue can be seen on the temple grounds. The highly revered Phra Kaew Don Tao Buddha image cast in the 16th century is enshrined in this temple, after it was brought here from nearby Wat Phra Kaew Don Tao temple. The temple contains a large number of buildings in a very original state, including the oldest surviving wooden wihan in Thailand. The temple grounds are surrounded by high fortified walls. A Naga stairway leads to the large, elaborate entrance gate that gives access to the complex. In front of the stairway are two large guardian lions. The chedi or stupa is likely the oldest structure of the temple. Although it is not known exactly when it was built, it was enlarge and rebuilt in 1449. It was enlarged again at the end of the 15th century to its current height of 45 meters. The chedi is covered with bronze and copper sheets that have weathered over the centuries and changed its color. The chedi enshrines a hair relic of the Buddha, that was donated by the Buddha when he visited the site some 2,500 years ago, according to local beliefs. The chedi is not open to the public. The temple is outside of town but well worth a special trip. It’s free to enter and also has a small local market next to the parking lot. Port makes a road trip to the north for another important game. Sitting third in the table they trail Buriram by 5 points. Lamphun is in 6th place and wanting the points to stay competitive in the table as well as seeking redemption after losing at Port earlier in the year. With the distance being over 600 km to the north we take the super fan bus to the game. Starting on Friday night the game is the following evening with a return on Sunday. The cost of the trip was 699 Baht for the bus, 300 Baht for the hotel and 250 for a game day ticket. The return trip had a surprise that was unexpected with 3 different breakdowns but things happen. Prasat Khonburi ปราสาทค์ครบุรี This small sight has been extensively restored into what it once looked like. This Khmer ruin is known as an arogyasala or hospital chapel. Prang Khonburi is located in the Khonburi district of Nakhon Ratchasima province. It is a Mahayana Buddhist temple with a simple tower and a rectangular building set inside an enclosure. There is a square pond located to the northeast. The temple or Arohayasala served as a medical station built by order of King Jayavarman VIl (1181-1218). During his reign 102 medical stations were built across the empire. It was officially proclaimed as an Ancient Monument by the King on September 27th 1936. It is just to the east of the ancient settlement site of Ban Khonburi. The laterite sanctuary closely follows a standard hospital chapel blueprint with a main, east-facing shrine and porch, intact 'library' and enclosing wall with an eastern gopura. All buildings were built with laterite stones with sandstone door and window frames. The manditory laterite, step-lined pond is located immediately northeast of the enclosure while a small baray is to the east. A lotus bud tower top piece and several pediments are today on the ground and sections of carved colonettes are on site. The pediments and lintel remain uncarved. A hospital chapel stele and inscription was apparently found here but its current location is unknown. The site is small but enjoable to see. Its interesting to see the role of these type of buikdings in the areas of Khmer influence as well as hiw they were constructed. The annual market fair is at Tammasat University in the Pathum Thani area, north of Bangkok. The fair is held at the end of March on their Rangsit campus. It’s located about 30-40 north of Bangkok, accessible by bus or taxi. The night market is really a great time. It allows visitors to shop and sample Thai street foods. It’s a great way to get out in the cool of the evening and experience a part of what makes Thailand fun. The amount of food vendors is amazing with something for any taste. Night markets are always popular with the locals as well as tourists. They are part of the culture and can be found through Thailand. In addition to regular night markets special events will spring up to promote a certain area different times throughout the year. Din Daeng is a part of Bangkok that is mostly unknown to tourists. From March 19th to the 28th it is hosting one of the special night markets that caters to the local population. Lots of food and drinks can be found here as well as activities for the kids. It starts up in the early evening and runs until around 10pm.
