Wood Turning Burl Off-cuts to Resin Hybrid Knife
Woodturning mallee burl / burr off cuts and left-over pieces into an amazing hybrid knife using epoxy resin. Utilising leftovers are always a great idea as I hate wasting nice wood so like to collect them and turn them into all soft of different artistic projects. Sanded to 600 grit then sprayed with gloss lacquer and finally used a stainless steel insert

Almost broke the lathe by turning this MASSIVE burl to vase
Almost broke the lathe by turning this MASSIVE elm burl vase
Turning a burl size like this on a wood lathe comes with some challenges but it did not stop me to turning this massive burr / burl into a stunning wooden vase with glass tube insert to make it a fully functional art piece. Hollowing the wooden art was rather difficult so had to improvise halfway through. This burl had so much characteristics so wanted to retain some of the live edge burl to showcase it in the final result.

I wood turned this WOODWORM infested oak log into ART
This week, I will wood turn a heavily woodworm infester oak log firewood into beautiful art project. I could not decide whether this is a wooden bowl or wood vase / vessel so let me know what you think. Turing this unbalanced log on my woodturning lathe was a challenge so went very slow until most wood was carved. Finished the bowl with mineral oil to allow the wood grain to pop and show its natural beauty.

Woodturning – You would NOT guess what I turned this into…
In this woodturning video, I will turn some incredible looking elm burl into a hybrid truly one-of-a-kind project. This hybrid blank had so much possibilities from hybrid goblets to pepper mills but I decided to go with something different to celebrate a huge milestone for this channel. Casted in deep pour epoxy resin, infused with glittery epoxy pigments, turned and sanded on the lathe but celebrating with you all together :)
Thank you ever so much for the positive words for my first ever voiceover video earlier this week it means a lot! More to come ;)

Woodturning – My Biggest Hybrid Pine Cone Bowl
In this woodturning video, I will turn some oven dried pine cones into a hybrid multi coloured epoxy resin bowl. 😉 The pine cones were dried in the over for several hours in preparation for casting them into resin where I used blue and gold resin metallic pigment. The pine cones were not stabilised but from previous woodturning experience I did not feel the need of the lengthy process.

Woodturning – Golden Burl Beauty
In this woodturning video, I will turn an Australian mallee burl or burr into a beautiful mini vase. Used gold epoxy resin and mix epoxy pigments what really completed the light brown wood colour. When working on hybrid woodturning project like this I use negative rake carbide tips what woks great on resin to reduce (stop) any chip out while turning on the lathe. Wet sanded all the way to 2000grit and a light polish and buff to bring the shine out. Happy watching 😉

How to wood turn glass and epoxy resin hybrid burl vase
In this woodturning video, I will transform some large spalted burls or burrs into a hybrid epoxy resin vase / vessel. This project is a fully functional piece of art due to the glass insert what protect the wood from any water damage. To achieve high gloss finish with this woodworking craft item I used several layers of gloss lacquer. At some point making this project I thought it is a complete failure due to some hiccup but glad I decided to go ahead and finish 😊

Woodturning – Gigantic Burl to Wooden Bowl
In this woodturning video, I will transform a giant kiln dried oak burl / burr into a huge wooden salad bowl with additional feet carved to the bottom of the bowl. Projects, sized like this needs time and patience as you can only turn at a very low speed on the wood turning lathe until is rough turned. I also used my one-way coring system to ensure I can reduce any wood waste an maximise the burl’s potential to make more than just one wooden bowl. Happy Watching 😊

Woodturning some elm burls into a hybrid wedding goblet with two captive rings. It was a freshly cut burl/burr but spent 30hrs in the oven to dry then some cleaning to do before it can be casted in epoxy resin to make the hybrid blank. Mixed with blue resin mica powder to compliment the wood. 2 captive rings were added during wood turning and sprayed with lacquer to extra shine.

Woodturning - Burl to Vase
Woodturning some amazing air dried Australian mallee burls into a vibrant looking vase / vessel. Used a total of 4 different pieces of burrs and mixed 3 type of colours to achieve this stunning look. Wet sanded all the way to 2000grit then polished to high shine. Inspired by the upcoming American Independence Day so the colours of their flags have been used however there are many other countries around the world with the same colours who can adopt this project easily 😊.

It was rough turned then air dried for 12 months before I could finish this woodturning project on my lathe. Woodturning - Massive Chip Outs to Beautiful Vase
In this woodturning video I will transform an Australian red mallee burl into a hybrid blue vase. I have some small burl pieces what is ideal for such wood turning projects and it also great for beginner wood turners as very good wood to work with. When rough shaping the blank I use traditional tools with lower speed so cause loads of chip outs but then I swap over to a negative rake carbide tool and increase the lathe speed and smooths out the surface in no time. Wet sanded all the way to 3000 grit then a good polish made it look like glass.

Woodturning - Burl to Vase
In this woodturning video, I will turn a large kiln dried elm burl / burr into a vase. I decided not to use any epoxy resin as the wood itself was so incredible so wanted to keep as natural looking as possible. Due to its end grain turning coring the inside of the log was rather challenging but some sharp carbide tip cut through the wood nicely. To pop the grain, I used several coats of boiled linseed oil and left my maker mark in the bottom of the vase with the help of some two parts resin. Happy Watching 😊
