The Forbes World’s Billionaires list is a snapshot of wealth using stock prices and exchange rates from March 5, 2021. Some people become richer or poorer within days of publication. They list individuals rather than multigenerational families who share fortunes, though they include wealth belonging to a billionaire’s spouse and children if that person is the founder of the fortune. In some cases they list siblings or couples together if the ownership breakdown among them isn’t clear, but here an estimated net worth of $1 billion per person is needed to make the cut. They value a variety of assets, including private companies, real estate, art and more. Thet don’t pretend to know each billionaire’s private balance sheet (though some provide it). When documentation isn’t supplied or available, they discount fortunes.

Tax-to-GDP Ratio: Comparing Tax Systems Around the World 💰📊
How does each country’s tax system compare to one another? Since countries’ populations and economies differ greatly, measuring total tax revenue is not the best way to compare international tax systems.
Instead, using a tax-to-GDP ratio is one of the more useful ways to compare tax systems around the world.
The dataset used here looks at 35 of the 37 OECD countries, since recent data for Australia and Japan was not available.
The tax-to-GDP ratio measures a country’s tax revenue, relative to the size of its economy (measured by its Gross Domestic Product, or GDP). A higher tax-to-GDP ratio means more money is going to government coffers, and in theory, public services like education and infrastructure. Out of 35 OECD countries, Denmark has the highest tax-to-GDP ratio at 46.3%, while Mexico ranks last at 16.5%.

Global Happiness Index | 2021 😃😟📊
This animated map pulls data from the World Happiness Report to uncover the average scores of 149 countries between 2018-2020, and which ones emerged the happiest or unhappiest (least happy).
The World Happiness Report is a publication of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network. It contains articles and rankings of national happiness, based on respondent ratings of their own lives, which the report also correlates with various (quality of) life factors. As of March 2021, Finland had been ranked the happiest country in the world four times in a row. The report primarily uses data from the Gallup World Poll.
How is Happiness Measured?
Some clear indicators are health and wealth, both metrics that have been steadily on the rise worldwide. The report takes these into account, weighting GDP per capita and life expectancy at birth into the scores.
The report also looks at more intangible aspects, collecting survey responses around:
Social support
Freedom to make life choices
Generosity
Perceptions of government/ business corruption
Positive or negative affects (Recent experience of emotions)

World's Most Spoken Languages 💬📊

How Do You Define A Language?
The data comes from the 22nd edition of Ethnologue, a database covering a majority of the world’s population, detailing approximately 7,111 living languages in existence today.
The definitions of languages are often dynamic, blurring the lines around a singular understanding of what makes a language:
Linguistic: focused on lexical and grammatical differences, or on variations within speech communities
Social: focused on cultural or political factors, as well as heritage and identity
For the purposes of measurement, the researchers use the ISO 693-3 set of criteria, which accounts for related varieties and dialects—ensuring that linguistics are not the only factor considered in this count of languages.

COVID vs Historical Pandemics 😷 📊
This is a #Shorts version of the full version that can be found here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgQG4jtyDGQ
This bar chart race ranks the deaths from the largest known epidemics (including pandemics) caused by an infectious disease, from the Antonine Plague to the current COVID-19 event. Widespread non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease and cancer are not included.
An epidemic is the rapid spread of disease to a large number of people in a given population within a short period of time. For example, in meningococcal infections, an attack rate in excess of 15 cases per 100,000 people for two consecutive weeks is considered an epidemic.
Despite the persistence of disease and pandemics throughout history, there’s one consistent trend over time – a gradual reduction in the death rate. Healthcare improvements and understanding the factors that incubate pandemics have been powerful tools in mitigating their impact.
Events that are ongoing, like COVID-19, are estimates as of the date of this published video (Feb, 2021).
Note: Many of the death toll numbers shown in the video are ranges of best estimates based on available research. Some, such as the Plague of Justinian and Swine Flu, are subject to debate based on new evidence.

Which Countries Have The Fastest Internet? 🌐📊
Using data from the Speedtest Global Index™, this data visualization and animated map ranks the fastest (and slowest) internet speeds worldwide by country in fixed broadband internet speed (measured in Mbps).
When it comes to the fastest fixed broadband, Singapore comes in first place, with a download speed of 262.2 mbps—more than double the global average.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, Cuba has the slowest fixed broadband, with a speed of 3.46 mbps. Along with poor government funding, Cuba also has limited access to submarine cables. While most countries are connected to several, Cuba is only connected to one.
Availability of Internet access was once limited, but has grown rapidly. In 1995, only 0.04 percent of the world's population had access, with well over half of those living in the United States, and consumer use was through dial-up. By the first decade of the 21st century, many consumers in developed nations used faster broadband technology, and by 2014, 41 percent of the world's population had access, broadband was almost ubiquitous worldwide, and global average connection speeds exceeded one megabit per second.

Coffee is a brewed drink prepared from roasted coffee beans, the seeds of berries from certain Coffea species. From the coffee fruit, the seeds are separated to produce a stable, raw product: unroasted green coffee. The seeds are then roasted, a process which transforms them into a consumable product: roasted coffee, which is ground into a powder and typically steeped in hot water before being filtered out, producing a cup of coffee.
In 2020, world production of green coffee beans was 175,647,000 60 kg bags, led by Brazil with 39% of the total. Vietnam, Indonesia, and Colombia were other major producers.
Nordic countries are the highest coffee consuming nations; consumption in Finland is the world's highest, close to or more than double that of Brazil; Italy; France; Greece; and Canada, which is the 10th-highest consumer, and close to triple coffee consumption in the United States, which ranked 25th in 2018.

World's Top Pineapple Producers 🍍 📊

Since the 1820s, pineapple has been commercially grown in greenhouses and many tropical plantations. Further, it is the third most important tropical fruit in world production. In the 20th century, Hawaii was a dominant producer of pineapples, especially for the US; however, by 2016, Costa Rica, Brazil, and the Philippines accounted for nearly one-third of the world's production of pineapples.
In 2019, world production of pineapples was 28.2 million tons, led by Costa Rica, the Philippines, Brazil, and Indonesia as the largest producers.

Most Dangerous Countries 🔫📊
Watch the full version here: https://youtu.be/hXG8WXyNXQY
What are the most dangerous countries in the world? Watch as this data visualization and bar chart race ranks the highest homicide rates by country, categorized by the following regions: Asia, North America, South America, MENA (Middle East and North Africa), Africa, Oceania, and Europe.
The Americas continue to report high homicide rates. Young men are especially at risk, with a homicide rate for men aged 18 to 19 estimated at 46 per 100,000 – far higher than the risk faced by their peers in other regions. Firearms are also involved far more often in homicides in the Americas than in other parts of the world.
By contrast, Europe has seen a decline in the homicide rate by 63 per cent since 2002 and by 38 per cent since 1990. The rate in Asia has fallen by 36 per cent since 1990. Data collection overall has improved since the previous Global Study on Homicide, but there remain serious gaps in the availability of reliable data for African countries. There are also indications that homicide is underreported in the official statistics in Pacific countries.

World's GREENEST Countries 💚📊
This (#Shorts) data visualization ranks the top 50 countries by its Environmental Performance Index (*), categorized by the following regions: Asia, North America, South America, MENA (Middle East and North Africa), Africa, Oceania, and Europe.
What Does “Green” Mean?
Each high-level performance indicator with the EPI, like “environmental health”, is broken into subsections. Nations are scored on each subsector on a scale up to 100. As a result, multiple countries can rank first in any given category.
From widening wealth disparity to the environmental ramifications of economic development—the growing focus on global sustainability is a clear sign of the times.
Research reveals that when a sustainable ethos is applied to policy and business, it typically bodes well for economies and people alike. By providing benchmarks for those decisions, indexes like Yale’s Environmental Performance Index (EPI) can be critical to measuring national sustainability efforts.
(*) Developed by Yale University, the EPI measures nations across 32 performance indicators -- from climate change mitigation to air quality -- revealing the world's most environmentally friendly countries.

Pigs are the most widely eaten animal in the world, accounting for about 36% of meat production worldwide. Increasing urbanization and disposable income has led to an uprising in pork consumption in China, where 2006 consumption was 20% higher than in 2002. In 2015 recorded total 109.905 million metric tons of pork were consumed worldwide. By 2017, half the world's pork was consumed in China.
Pigs are farmed in many countries, though the main consuming countries are in Asia, meaning there is a significant international and even intercontinental trade in live and slaughtered pigs. Despite having the world's largest herd, China is a net importer of pigs, and has been increasing its imports during its economic development. The largest exporters of pigs are the United States, the European Union, and Canada. As an example, more than half of Canadian production (22.8 million pigs) in 2008 was exported, going to 143 countries.

World's Most Expensive Beers by Country | World Beer Index 2021 🍺📊
This data visualization and bar chart race ranks the most expensive of the average price of a bottle of beer in 58 countries using the World Beer Index (*), categorized by the following regions: Asia, North America, South America, MENA (Middle East and North Africa), Africa, Oceania, and Europe. Shown here are the top 30 most expensive beers.
In Qatar, you’d have to shell out $11.26 for a single beer, which would surely make for a really expensive night out on the town. In part, this is because in 2019, the Muslim-majority country introduced a 100% excise tax on top the previous sales price of all alcohol imports.
These steep prices are aimed at tourists—and with Qatar hosting the 2022 men’s soccer World Cup, there’ll be thousands of visitors in the country looking for a cold one at any price.
(*) World Beer Index 2021: METHODOLOGY & SOURCES
The prices of a 330ml bottle of beer in supermarkets around the world were collated using online shops, focusing on well-known beer brands such as Corona and Heineken. When the price via an online shop couldn't be found, numbeo.com was used.
To gain an average price, hotels were called to find out the price of a beer from their lobby bar, and when this wasn’t available, menus from bars found online were used. Once all the data was collected, the average price in US dollars was calculated using xe.com.
Using the World Health Organisation statistics, the amount of alcohol consumption per capita and the percentage of annual beer consumption was found.

Military Spending by Country 💣📊
📊This is a #Shorts version; the full-length video can be found here:
https://youtu.be/WIP0BtABzJs
This bar chart race ranks a country's military expenditures (as a % of GDP) from 1960 thru the most recent data available in 2021, broken down by the following regions: Asia, NA (North America), SA (South America), MENA, Oceania, and Europe.
Military expenditure is the expenditure by a country's government on their military forces, i.e. maintenance and operations, military research and development, military aid, procurement, salaries, pensions, etc. World military spending refers to the aggregate global military spending by different countries
The military expenditure of various countries is presented annually by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. The data presented by the institute is based on open source data provided by national governments, which include the national budget documents, defense white papers and public finance statistics published by ministries of finance and defense, central banks and national statistical offices. This research has been at the core of the institute’s work since its foundation in 1966, and is used globally by researchers, policymakers, journalists and the general public. It aids in building a clearer picture of trends and development in regional and world military spending.

Countries With Highest Budget DEFICITS | #Shorts 📒📊
Watch the full version here: https://youtu.be/xozR9jPD1JY
This data visualization and bar chart race ranks the highest budget deficits (as a % of GDP) by country, categorized by the following regions: Asia, North America, South America, MENA (Middle East and North Africa), Africa, Oceania, and Europe.
Deficit spending is the amount by which spending exceeds revenue over a particular period of time, also called simply deficit, or budget deficit; the opposite of budget surplus. The term may be applied to the budget of a government, private company, or individual. Government deficit spending is a central point of controversy in economics.
When the outlay of a government (i.e., the total of its purchases of goods and services, transfers in grants to individuals and corporations, and its net interest payments) exceeds its tax revenues, the government budget is said to be in deficit; government spending in excess of tax receipts is known as deficit spending.
