The Song, The Caves of Altamira, was inspired by the Actual Caves in Spain, that were discovered in 1868 by Modesto Cubillas, near the historic town of Santillana del Mar in Cantabria, Spain. These Caves are renowned for 'prehistoric' cave art featuring charcoal drawings and polychrome paintings of contemporary local fauna and human endeavors... But, not really... Donald and Walter wrote the song for what the MESSAGE of the Caves represent...know that the Latin word, Altamira, means Place of High View, or to See from a High Place...and thus, the Caves actually represent Going DEEP within ourselves, during Meditation, where we 'DRAW' Primitive Images upon the Walls of our Mind, so that when the 'Time' comes to Re-Awaken Ourselves from Slumber, once more, that we are TRIGGERED by one of these Primitive Images... Expecting to Fly exemplifies everything that is SO RIGHT about the 1960's...it is a song that Stands for Dreams, for Possibilities, for Personal Growth and Development, for Strength, for the Burning Desire to Reach God in Heaven, to Sprout Wings and Fly Away, so very High, to come back Home to Him... We Do what we're Told (Milgram's 37) was the closing track to Peter Gabriel's best album, one of the very finest albums in the History of Sound and Truth, his 1986 Masterpiece, So! This song is about the Social/Psychological experiments of Stanley Milgram, a Yale professor who in 1961 had subjects administer electric shocks to a person if they answered a question wrong - at least, that's what they thought. The person being shocked was actually an actor who writhed in pain and agony, begging for release, as the shocks got larger. Milgram wanted to see if the subjects would administer the shocks when the experimenter told them to, even though they were causing apparent pain in the person. Almost all subjects administered the highest level of shock despite the actor pounding the wall in apparent agony.
