There's certainly no honour among thieves, as was the case, after NDP member Peter Julian moved Alistair MacGregor's amendment (supported by Conservatives) aimed at providing at least one avenue for Canadian athletes to continue competing in the shooting sport known as IPSC. Kody Blois, a rural Liberal MP working for the constituents of King - Hants, Nova Scotia, with his important vote, had the opportunity to save the sport. However, even after expressing concern for his party's position on the matter, decided hypocritically, to abstain from the vote altogether, deliberately crushing the community in which he claimed he supported. Kristina Michaud of the Bloc Québécois, unsurprisingly, voted against the motion. The IPSC community is made up of thousands of licensed, RCMP-vetted, law abiding gun owners, who are highly regulated, trained, and compete in Canada, and around the world. 🌎 Pam Damoff claimed the Liberal position stood primarily on the words of Ken Price, father of shooting victim Samantha Price (Danforth shooting), when he said "It's a decision about how you want to move forward as a country." She added that Mr. Price said he 'would love to have handguns banned tomorrow, but maybe we freeze them now, and it will take them out of circulation eventually.' So there's really two parts to that answer, one is why do people own AR-15s and the other is addressing why people need them – as it were. Canadians own AR-15s specifically for sport shooting. It is the de facto long gun for many types of sports shooting events, there are a lot of people involved in these activities, and they've been going on for over 100 years in this country. None of this is new. Concerning the “need” part of the question, there are a lot of things that Canadians can own without having to demonstrate a need. The real question is, is public safety negatively impacted by Canadians owning certain kinds of firearms? And would a ban on certain types of firearms make Canadians safer? And, just as important, is the response (confiscation of property from people who have proven they can be trusted) justified by the potential public safety benefit? Those are the real questions, and I understand that it's a lot more convenient to replace the hard questions with "why does anyone need an AR-15". So, for anyone who wants to be taken seriously on the topic of public safety these are the questions that we should be asking. Other Serious Questions: And again, for those who are serious people, there are other, very serious questions that need to be answered. Like, where's the violence really coming from? Who’s doing it? How do we stop violent behavior in the first place with or without firearms, or where are these guns coming from? Are there things we can do to keep firearms out of the hands of criminals that doesn’t include taking firearms away from millions of Canadians who have done nothing wrong? These things are difficult, that’s why you won’t see the Bloc, the NDP or the Liberals doing them or asking any of these hard questions.

Officers from Toronto Police, York Regional Police, Durham Regional Police, OPP, & Canada Border Services Agency, held a news conference regarding the successful completion of a major year-long cross-border firearms investigation funded by the Government of Ontario. In total, 42 people were arrested & over 400 charges were laid. Multiple officers pointed to organized crime, Canada's largely undefended border, & the proceeds of crime as the motivation behind the attempt to smuggle firearms into the country. Supt. Steve Watts, asked by media what federal legislation would police like to see to stop weapon smuggling at the border, pointed to collaboration between law enforcement agencies, including the ATF Attaché to Canada, saying, "That's the way, you operationally, & actually, deter the flow across [the border]. It's not through written legislation."
