Officers from Toronto Police, York Regional Police, Durham Regional Police, OPP, & Canada Border Services Agency, held a news conference regarding the successful completion of a major year-long cross-border firearms investigation funded by the Government of Ontario.

In total, 42 people were arrested & over 400 charges were laid.

Multiple officers pointed to organized crime, Canada's largely undefended border, & the proceeds of crime as the motivation behind the attempt to smuggle firearms into the country.

Supt. Steve Watts, asked by media what federal legislation would police like to see to stop weapon smuggling at the border, pointed to collaboration between law enforcement agencies, including the ATF Attaché to Canada, saying, "That's the way, you operationally, & actually, deter the flow across [the border]. It's not through written legislation."

Canadian authorities seized the following:
- 86 firearms (75 handguns/11 long guns) in the GTA
- 87 firearms (all handguns) in Illinois, United States
- 45 prohibited magazines
- 1,454 rounds of ammunition
- 3 auto switches
- 3 sets of body armour
- Approx. 1.5 kilos of fentanyl/carfentanil, with a street value of roughly $300,000
- About 1.8 kilos of cocaine, with a street value of about $190,000
- Approx. $184,000 in proceeds of crime
