Growing your own food is the perfect metaphor for life. Each growing season, I am presented with obvious things that REALLY DIDN'T WORK. Last year, it was that winter squash take over everything around them (sort of like mint.)

Next in our series of home workouts for beginners/intermediate levels with bio-mechanics and exercise progressions explained is ARMS. Definitely one of those areas of aesthetic focus where people will notice physiological changes rather quickly. Arms are one of my favorite because they aren't extremely taxing but they are extremely easy to overload and activate. Arm workouts are good to do on days where your other major muscle groups are sore because they don't require the assistance of much else. Arm days are almost mandatory for natural lifters because they may never get targeted specifically with the volume of other compound movements trained during the week.
Part of resilience is physical fitness - your body's ability to cope and adapt when put under stress. There is no better way to teach your physiology to thrive under pressure than to put it there, VOLUNTARILY.
This routine takes no more than 20 minutes and can be customized for your level of joint health and mobility as well as your current strength levels. We take the same care when training our clients, in person and virtually. No body is the same and everyone has their own neuromuscular habits and compensations that we make sure to program around and build in exercises to slowly bring the body back into balance.

It's been about 3 weeks since we soaked some 2 year old seed to try and hedge our bets with germination. Result: only a few seeds actually germinated that should have at this point. The Collards and Broc Raab have at maximum a 17 day sprouting window and we have no signs of life! Time to reuse the soil and trays and replant. The Spinach is not much different.
There are some signs of life with the Parsley so we will wait and see if more germinate.
I had reseeded right before I left for a trip and when I came back 4 days later, both collards and broc raab had already germinated! This is the expected behavior. It may have been ambient humidity and temperature (it's been warmer) but it was most likely just bad old seed in the first place. We move everything out into the greenhouse and check on our starts that we under the light and are now outside!

Momentum is one of your best friends during a training program! Building it is hard and keeping it is harder. Corrective exercise days can be used if you are sore from a successful week on your plan and cardio is unappealing to the point of you thinking about skipping getting in your movement.
Correctives do two main things:
1. Pull your Upper Body back from Upper Crossed Syndrome (strengthen back stabilizers and stretch lats)
2. Push your Pelvis forward from Lower Cross Syndrome (strengthen glutes and hip extensors and stretch hip flexors)
THESE WILL BE LIGHT WEIGHTS FOR HIGH REPS. WE AREN'T TRYING TO TEAR ANYTHING DOWN.
This workout:
1. Burpees 3 x 10 for full body warmup (I hate Burpees but they are really good at warming up)
2. Wide Glute Bridge 3 x 10-15 - feet externally rotated. Should feel in your side butt
3. Abductor Slide 3 x 10-15 - great stabilizer. Pull back up with inner leg
4. Squat-to-Facepull 3 x 10-20 - Full Pull exercise. This is probably the single best corrective exercise I know in one motion. Works all the posterior chain muscles. Make sure to squeeze at the top. Entire back of your body should be working!
5. Wide HIGH Row 3 x 10-20 - VERY LIGHT WEIGHT and VERY WIDE GRIP. Use a bench to support your lower back so you can focus on targeting the very upper back. I do 1.5s to make sure my posterior delts and back stabilizers are doing the work and not the traps.

I have been [unknowingly] using Shinrin-yoku, the Japanese practice of Forest Bathing. Modern researchers would call this Attention Restoration Theory - this states that in order to bring ourselves back to sensory and hormonal BASELINE, we need long periods submerged in our rich, natural environment - away from the hustle & bustle.

This routine takes no more than 10 minutes and can be customized for your level of joint health and mobility as well as your current strength levels. We take the same care when training our clients, in person and virtually.
