Honeywell 6160: Explanation of a CKT Error
In this video, Dylan discusses what a CKT Error is on a Honeywell 6160 Keypad. A CKT Error means that there is an open circuit and that the keypad is not communicating properly with the panel. This problem can be caused by factors like improper wiring, incorrect address, or a faulty keypad or panel.
A Honeywell 6160 is connected with a hardwired Honeywell VISTA System for the purpose of controlling the system. On the VISTA System, there are data-in and data-out terminals for the keypad. This wired connection is used for exchanging information between the VISTA Panel and the keypad.
If the wiring is done incorrectly, it can cause a CKT Error on the system. This is one of the most common causes of a CKT Error. Fortunately, this type of error can be cleared by simply correcting the wiring and making sure that it is correct. It is also necessary to address the keypad correctly. The address can be checked by pressing and holding the [1] and [3] keys on the keypad. The keypad will display "CON ADDR" and the address number.
However, if the problem is not solved by correcting the wiring and configuring the address correctly, then the issue might be the result of a faulty panel or keypad. If the keypad is not lighting up and not functioning normally, then it is likely that the device is defective. On the other hand, a defective panel can be more difficult to identify.
If the keypad or panel is faulty, then it will need to be replaced with equipment that is functioning properly. Fortunately, a user will typically be able to bring over all their existing sensors over to their new security system. But if the problem causing the CKT Error is properly dealt with, then the issue should go away on its own. Therefore, a user should check the wiring and the address before replacing the panel or keypad entirely.
