What Is the Rod of Correction?

As Jesus' disciples, we need to understand how He explains the "rod of correction" referred to in the Book of Proverbs, in the Old Testament.

If we look at Jesus’ earthly Teachings, we see that He corrected the religious leaders of His day all the time – even though they had access to God’s Word, even though they were required to memorize it, even though their lives were supposedly solely dedicated to God, according to Jesus, they completely misunderstood God’s Word.

So if they didn’t understand what God meant – if Jesus (the Second Person of God, who is Omniscient) explained the Law and what God wants from us, if He risked His Life many times to deliver to us His Word (the Word of God), it isn’t wise at all for any of us to take the Book of Proverbs out of context, project our misunderstanding of it on God and declare “This is what God wants parents to do – to hit their children and make them understand”, and to literally disregard Jesus’ Word to us, His disciples when the commitment we made was to follow *Him.
