Spanish 102 - Spanish Verbs with Different Meanings for Beginners Spanish With Profe
In this video you will learn about four verbs that have a different meanings in the preterite in Spanish. The preterite or el pretérito is another form of the simple past in Spanish. The pretérito is used to talk about a completed action in the past tense. It is used to talk about the beginning of an action or the ending of an action in the past.
In this set of four verbs with different meaning in the pretérito; three of them are irregular verbs (Saber, Poder, Querer) and one is regular (Conocer). These irregular verbs will have a very different root in the pretérito, so you will need to use the new root, and then add the endings given below.

nosotros/as -imos
ellos, ellas, ustedes -ieron
saber=sup_ (to find out)
yo supe
tú supiste
él, ella, usted supo
nosotros/as supimos
ellos, ellas, ustedes supieron
poder =pud_ (to manage, to fail)
yo pude
tú pudiste
él, ella, usted pudo
nosotros/as pudimos
ellos, ellas, ustedes pudieron
querer=quis_ (to try, to refuse)
yo quise
tú quisiste
él, ella, usted quiso
nosotros/as quisimos
ellos, ellas, ustedes quisieron
conocer in the past tense -pretérito means (to meet)
It will follow the regular -er/-ir endings in the pretérito

ellos, ellas, ustedes conocieron
Ayer supimos la verdad. (Yesterday we found out the truth.)
La semana pasada yo pude correr cinco millas. (Last week I managed to run five miles. ( I was able to run five miles)).
Anoche ellos no pudieron dormir. (Last night they were not able to sleep. (They failed to sleep.)
Tú quisiste comer más pero no pudiste. (You tried to eat more but you were not able to.)
Ella no quiso salir con ellos. (She refused to go out with them.)
El año pasado yo conocí a Blake. (Last year I met Blake.)
