Our first baby born on Sunshine N Country farm

We have a new baby on our farm. Our first turkey poult (Styder) was born on Sunday the 16th of May. We had intended to let his mama raise him but being a new mom she wasn't able to get him to drink or eat. She tried though. So we had to make a decision since he was the only baby to sucessfully hatch and the fact he was not getting food or water we stepped in to give this little fella or girl a fighting chase. Tips for raising baby poults
1# You have to take on the roll of a mother turkey and show them repeatedly where to get food and water and don't let up until you see that they are able to find it on their own.
2# You can make mash we have found this works really well to get them to eat in the beginning. Mash is made by adding a small amout of water to the turkey crumbles until it's moist not watery like soup more like the consistency of oatmeal.
#3 with chicks or poults it's best to have at least 2 or more. If you are left with an only lonely chick or baby poult try and get them a buddy chicks can be buddies for poults as they learn quicker and can teach the baby turkey where to find food and water as well as providing the feel of belong to a flock which makes them feel more safe and secure.
4# Also whenever you first get chicks or poults dip their beaks in the water.
5# for turkey poults feed a high protien feed 28-30% is best or 25% will do for the first month if you have some left over use it tell it's gone.
