"Leader of the Band" was Dan Fogelberg's 4th top 10 hit, which rose to #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1981 (Whitburn, 2008). The song was written as a tribute to his father, Lawrence Fogelberg (songfacts.com, 2021), who is pictured in my Rumble thumbnail (fromthehistoryroom.wordpress.com, 2020). Lawrence was a music teacher and a high school band director (www.countrythangdaily.com, 2021). Dan's father died the year after the song was released (Wikipedia, 2021). Dan Fogelberg died in 2007 of prostate cancer (Whitburn, 2008).
