C band & KU band LNBF For a #FreeSatelliteTV aka #FreeToAir Satellite Dish

The Happy Satellite Nerd Episode 103 Get the best of both worlds on one dish with a C band and KU band LNBF Free to Air television. Unable to find this model of C/KU lnb but you can get them from Tek2000 https://www.facebook.com/commerce/products/3151930144936695/?rid=682787588964078&ad_id&rt=1&refID=0&refType=0&preview_image_id=3568694869849914&__tn__=H0%2CW0HHH-R You should have the following parts in addition to the main body of the BSC621-2 C/Ku LNBF. 1. The Scalar Ring, used to mount the BSC621-2 to your dish. You will notice it has holes that allow you to use 4 support arms or 3 support arms depending on your dish. There is a package of bolts that mount the dish arms to the scalar ring. It includes the bolt that mounts the BSC621-2 to the scalar ring. 2. The di-electric plate is used for circular signals. It converts your linear polarity to circular. 3. The Coax Jumper is used to connect the Ku part of the BSC621-2 to the switching device located on the side of the BSC621-2. This diagram shows how to connect the Ku and C-band so it can be delivered down one coax. Looking at the diagram, you will see the Ku connection is at the end of the BSC621-2. Using the Coax Jumper, connect it to the port marked “LNB” on the side of the BSC621-2. Connect the coax that delivers signal to your receiver to the remaining port, marked “RCV”. The band switching is accomplished by DiSEqC control sent from your receiver. Setting your receiver DiSEqC to #1 or A will give you C-band, and setting your receiver DiSEqC to #2 or B will give you Ku-band.Properly installing the LNBF on your dish is critical. After attaching the scalar ring to your support arms, you should confirm that it is pointing to the center of your dish. One way to do this is to measure from the edge of your dish to the edge of the scalar ring in several places around your dish. These measurements should be the same. If not, your feed is not pointing to the center of your dish and will not perform as intended. After finding a signal, turn the LNBF to find the best polarity performance. Do this on both polarities. Carefully move the LNBF toward the dish and away from the dish to find the best operating distance. After finding the best possible performance tighten the set screw to hold the LNBF in place. The BSC621-2 has the ability to receive circular polarized signals. Remove the end cap from the LNBF. Insert the di-electric plate in the throat guides. Replace the end cap. Mine was Lattude 44 and my Elivation was 46 For my Deinclination Angle on the DISH I subtracted the Declination Angle (Degrees) 6.07° from the Elevation Angle (Degrees)44.66° 44.66° - 6.07° = 37.96 (37.96 Deinclination angle on the dish) Use a compas to find your true south location. go to www.DishPointer.com and find your latitude and longitude. Enter that into your receivers USALS (Universal Satellites Automatic Location System) under your motor settings. The plumb pole is real critical with these setups. And to find your true south satellite go to the one closest to your highest most southern part of the ark (True South should be 0 on the motor) on where your Longitude is set to the closest sat you can lock to that. In my case I am at 76.48 West so I moved the dish's Azimuth to 87 west. And then adjusted the Azimuth until I got signal on the receiver. I did adjust the Declination angle on the dish to fine tune the signal by a hair and got better signal. Moved it half a baby finger and lost signal. These cables need connectors on the end to hook up to appliances like TVs and transmit signal. If you have a coax cable without a connector, installing your own is a simple task. Strip the wire and expose its inner conductor. Then push a connector over it and crimp it in place. For tight spaces, use a right-angle connector to avoid bending the cable too much. Determine whether you have an RG59 or RG6 cable. These are the 2 most common types of coax cables, and you probably have one or the other. The easiest way to tell is to look at the rubber housing of the cable. The type should be printed here. The main difference between the cables is that RG6 is thicker and has more padding than RG59. This makes it more durable, and a more common choice for cable and internet wiring. Get a connector that matches your cable type. The most common coax connector is F type. Find an F type connector at a hardware store and match it to your cable width. Get one for each cable you’re connecting. There are also N type connectors, though these are much less common in home installations. F type connectors still come in a variety of styles, including crimp and twist on. Speak to a store employee if you don’t know which option is best for you. Cut through the rubber 1⁄2 inch (1.3 cm) from the end of the cable. Use either a wire stripping tool or a razor. Measure 1⁄2 inch (1.3 cm) from the end of the cable and cut around the outer rubber layer. Then pull it off to expose the mesh underneath. Don’t cut all the way through the cable. Just cut the outer rubber covering. Cutting too deep will damage the connection. If you use a razor to do this, be very careful. Don’t put your finger in the path of the blade and hold the cable tightly. Peel the wire mesh down. This wire mesh is the second layer of the cable. Use your fingers or a pair of pliers and peel the mesh back. Fold it down over the rubber housing below the first cut you made. A wire stripping tool could cut through this section and remove it, but be careful if you do this. Don’t cut deep enough to damage the conductor in the center of the cable. Trim the dielectric plastic 1⁄4 inch (0.64 cm) from the end of the cable. The final layer of insulation for the cable is a white plastic housing around the main conductor. Use a wire stripper or razor and gently cut around the plastic 1⁄4 inch (0.64 cm) from the top. Then peel it away to expose the copper conductor underneath.[5] The plastic may be foil-covered. Be especially careful when removing the plastic covering. If you damage the conductor, your signal will be weaker. Remove any pieces of wire mesh touching the conductor. If any part of the mesh touches the conductor, it interferes with the signal quality. This is called a stinger. With the SG2100 motorized system the dish moves from east to west to track the satellites positioned along the Clarke belt. Good for any offset dish with a U-bolt or Pole mounting up to 120 cm satellite dish.

Three important parameters are required to correctly align a motorized c band (TVRO) dish for viewing the entire satellite arc or Clarke Belt.

1. Azimuth Angle (True South/Not Magnetic South);

2. Elevation Angle;

3. Declination Angle;

Use a compass to point your dish south and use the chart below to find your "modified" polar mount elevation and declination angle.

Once you start locking satellite transponders, fine tune your azimuth, elevation and declination angles until you peak all satellite signals. Lock down your dish.

Go to the Dish Alignment table in your manual or on https://www.tvrosat.com/resources.html
Enter your Latatude and Elivation on the Motor. Mine was Lattude 44 and my Elivation was 46
For my Deinclination Angle on the DISH I subtracted the Declination Angle
(Degrees) 6.07° from the Elevation Angle (Degrees)44.66°
44.66° - 6.07° = 37.96 (37.96 Deinclination angle on the dish)

Use a compas to find your true south location.
go to www.DishPointer.com and find your latitude and longitude. Enter that into your receivers USALS (Universal Satellites Automatic Location System) under your motor settings.
The plumb pole is real critical with these setups.
And to find your true south satellite go to the one closest to your highest most southern part of the ark (True South should be 0 on the motor) on where your Longitude is set to the closest sat you can lock to that.
In my case I am at 76.48 West so I moved the dish's Azimuth to 87 west. And then adjusted the Azimuth until I got signal on the receiver.
I did adjust the Declination angle on the dish to fine tune the signal by a hair and got better signal. Moved it half a baby finger and lost signal.

I tightened up the dish and set the receiver for USALS to the other satellites 91west 99west 97west ETC and they came in great the way I did it!
