In full transparency, I put this game down about 5 months ago and kind of forgot everything. This series and the Zelda series are just staples I need to focus on. And if I have to restart Birth By Sleep, then so be it. I actually have my reactions to the two movies included in the All-in-One package (but I might actually re-record those as well). I don't know. I'm a mess. I actually bought a used PSP and a copy of Birth By Sleep years ago. But I never got around to even starting that! (Thanks Grad School). But by my count, I got 5 games to play and one movie left to watch to get caught up before Kingdom Hearts IV. As I stream this, I'd like to tear through the series in two years, which I feel is a pretty tough challenge. But I think a little here, a little there, and A LOT of not giving up, we'll be okay. Do you like board games? Yeah!! Who doesn't? Do you like Monopoly? Yeah! Do you like board games in video games? Yeah. Do you like the stock market? Sure. Do you like drawn out games of Monopoly? Well.... Do you like cheap AI? Hey now.... Well, I have just the mode for you! Introducing the Command Board! Which is really Square-Enix's Itadaki Street, first introduced in the NES/Famicom era. The series has seen 12 entries over the years, but only two western releases. One game was on the Wii featuring Dragon Quest and Mario, the game other was a smartphone app. And it's exactly that. A Monopoly-esque board game with the properties being tied to a stock market-like system. Except in Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep, you can use the Command Board to level up your commands, even get new ones! I like to think that what I stream shouldn't be skipped (for posterity sake), but I am willing to trim the fat here. I'm hard pressed to think of a mini game that is so beneficial to your adventure. So how does it play? It's fine. It'll break up the monotony of grinding everywhere I go. You have to bring your A-game every time, because this mode will not let you slide. Enchanted Dominion is a world based on Sleeping Beauty. The movie has a great feel to it. You know, you're going to think I'm crazy for saying this, but I think this movie is one of the best movies to use color in the way that is does. (Color is important to movies, Alien would not be the same if it was shot in Technicolor, West Side Story would not be the same if it used primarily muddy colors. The use of color in movies is a underrated artform. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk) I'm hoping that the movie translates well to Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep. You know what's weird? It all started with a mouse, which is true, the mouse did jumpstart the Walt Disney Company. (You could really make the argument that it all started with a rabbit, real ones know). But the Walt Disney Company put it all on the line in 1937 when they released 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' and it became a cultural phenomenon. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/hollywood-flashback-80-years-disneys-snow-white-set-animation-standard-1079926/#! The movie is nearly 90 years old and it still ranks towards the top of highest grossing movies of all time lists (adjusted for inflation). And if she's the only Disney Princess on the Walk of Fame, then that makes her the only Princess of Heart to be on the Walk of Fame as well. (Hey! There's that Kingdom Hearts reference) Before, she's only been featured in passing, a minor character with no lines. In Birth By Sleep, however, she gets her own world, and I'm kind of stoked for it. Okay, I'll admit to this. I'm loving everything Birth By Sleep has to offer, gameplay wise. It's kind of brilliant. "Hey, leveling up your character is going to be a slog. But in return, if you explore and experiment with melding commands, you can get some pretty OP commands that can make enemies melt." I mean, that's a pretty good trade off. This is one of those grindy hours, but we completely dunk on this game. It only took finishing Terra's and Ven's stories to figure out a good flow for leveling commands. So not only do we get all the stickers and treasure chests (And get a trophy for it). But we *maybe* spend too much time grinding to get all the abilities for Aqua when we should have been ending the story for her. I am so hoping that the final episode and the secret episode has Aqua as the primary focus, because she is an absolute force.
