Some days ago, a Christian family was massacred, the parents & their children. They were preceded & followed by many more massacres of Christians. The fact that these barbaric massacres are continuing unabated, not stopped by international institutions and Western states highlights their hypocrisy: They were the first to call for intervention for far far lesser accusations of wrongdoing by the Syria, or Russian, army. These accusations-- starving the people, chemical attacks--were false. It was in every case terrorists who starved civilians and hoarded food aid. But even these comparably far minor crimes, blamed on the Syrian government, were enough for international outrage & calls for intervention. But amply and continually documented mass slaughter of civilians, of children, that isn't enough? Syrian lives, whether Alawite, Shia, Christian, Sunni or other are no less precious than our lives. March 27, 2024 "In a conversation with Eva Bartlett, Brian Gerrish (UK Column) learns what takes a young woman from Canada to travel to explore the world. Bartlett (2007) paid for herself to go to the West Bank and the Gaza Strip (2008-2013) to understand what was really happening. On September 6, 2018, the day of the opening of the 60th Damascus International Fair, I spoke to Aleppo MP Fares Shehabi. One lady from old Damascus, was killed, she was participating in this fair—she had a clothing garment factory—and she was killed at the door, along with three or four people. Thank God the Syrian army liberated eastern Ghouta and we don't have any more terrorists there, and everybody's free now, and safe—that's most important.” "We expect high participation from many countries and local firms. It's about a political statement, an economic statement, that we won this war and we will win also the reconstruction war, and this is just one proof of it." On September 13 annually, Maaloula holds the Festival of the Cross. This year, I attended, going to one of the masses and seeing the impressive fires and other lights on top of the mountain overlooking the peaceful, but terror-ravaged, village. More: "The celebration dates back to 320 AD, when Saint Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine, sent officials to Jerusalem to find the Holy relic of the cross on Mount Golgotha, which they did on 14 September. In order to inform the emperor and his mother, who lived in Constantinople, bonfires were lit on every peak located along the 1,170 km that separate the two cities. On the morning of April 15, "rebels" in the Jobar district shelled a Damascus elementary school, killing one child and injuring at least 62 more, some of whom are critically-injured, some of whom lost limbs. A second school--a kindergarten--was also shelled the same morning, in the same densely-inhabited Christian area of Damascus, injuring 3 more children.
