After many years I’ve discovered that instilling the respect for water is crucial no matter how strong of a swimmer your child is. There are really only two paths you can take in order to teach swimming. One is to gain the swimming teaching qualification and get a job at a swim school, or you can try providing this service on your own. Exactly 20 years ago, I was attempting to enter the University of Physical Education in Katowice, Poland where I come from. I guess back then you could call me an athlete and a seriously committed sports person. I was playing for a football club, aspiring to become a coach or a PE teacher one day. Unfortunately my fear of water and inability to swim shattered those dreams durning the entry swimming test. Unfortunately, life didn’t really give me another chance to try again as I had to choose a different career path and take care of my family responsibilities. Just like you, I’m scared of water. As a matter of fact I was scared of it all my life until I learned how to swim at the age of 32 and gained enough confidence to face my fear. I’ve been swimming for six years now and working on my new personal records and setting ambitious goals. Some of them include becoming a lifeguard and a qualified swimming instructor so I can share what I learned with others.
