One year on, Ukraine’s ‘Alley of the Dead’ has grown significantly larger

Ukraine’s ‘Alley of Fame’ – part of a cemetery for fallen soldiers in Kharkov – shot to public prominence in 2023 when a local woman made a viral video showing its scale. The haunting video showed her driving past thousands of graves, a brutal testament to the unsustainable loss of life in the ongoing conflict with Russia. One year later, she has returned and the site has grown significantly larger. No longer an alley, it resembles several large city blocks, flying the same blue-and-yellow flags, plus some new additions. But perhaps the most ominous sight of all is the freshly cleared and laid out areas, prepared and waiting for more fallen soldiers.
