At least 100 people have been killed after Israeli troops reportedly opened fire on a crowd waiting for humanitarian aid in Gaza City. An IDF spokesman claimed that soldiers opened fire on ‘several people’ and that ‘dozens of Gazans were injured as a result of pushing and trampling,’ but eyewitnesses report that the soldiers opened fire indiscriminately as people pulled flour and canned goods from aid trucks. The death toll has now risen to 104, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, with several hundred more injured.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has condemned what his office has called ‘the ugly massacre conducted by the Israeli occupation army this morning,’ while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the international community to ‘urgently intervene,’ adding that a ceasefire was ‘the only way to protect civilians.’
