Increasing Taxes

HB 1537 would increase property taxes specifically to fund education. Hawaii currently spends about $18,000 to educate one child in the public school system. It ranks 17th for education spending with 34 states spending less per child yet continues to have some of the lowest SAT scores in the nation. The DOE Superintendent is paid over $200,000 a year and right now there’s a bill circulating in the legislature to pay him over $300,000 a year.

We should find better ways to manage and spend the taxpayer money that we already have budgeted before increasing the people of Hawaii’s tax burden yet again.
