Watch how I modified the Bow and Anchor light for this Whaler 13 restoration. The navigation light is a stainless reproduction that came with a terrible led, I found a perfect replacement socket and led for it! I used a Perko anchor light and modified it to fit the traditional Whaler stern light fittings. Watch how to install and wire a switch panel on this classic Boston Whaler 13 Restoration. As part of this, I also install a Faria tachometer and a relay to power the entire helm with a push of a button. I did this while the wood was still on the bench, making it easier to cut out the necessary holes. Here's a video on how to install the rub rail on a Boston Whaler boat restoration. I also apply the official Boston Whaler decals in the appropriate locations. There was at least one mistake made along the way and I cover how to avoid making the same mistake when installing a boat rub rail. These whalers used a 3 part rub rail system. I opted to use only two of the parts which gives me the look and protection I was looking for. I used a heat gun to help with radiusing the vinyl rail. How to Install a Classic Boston Whaler 13 Mahogany Interior. In this episode, I'll be installing the Super Sport Mahogany Interior that Bob Latourelle made for me. All of the Mahogany has been varnished and is ready for the install. I did run into a small hitch with the storage compartment and had to trim it a bit to get it to fit correctly. The next step in the Boston Whaler Restoration is to fair and sand the hull to prepare it for it's final finish paint. I also use a first coat of Totalboat Epoxy Barrier coat to highlight the defects and fair and sand those to provide the smoothest surface possible for the final finish coats of Interlux Perfection. One interesting note on where there was missing foam and soft spots. After some discussion with knowledgeable friends, we've concluded that the most likely cause was running the boat at speed with a compromised hull. The water entering the hull under those conditions would act like a power washer, eroding the foam. In this video, I'll be getting the transom ready for painting. I'll be doing a transom hole repair and fairing (except for the engine mount holes) and reinforcing the repairs with fiberglass. I'll finish this by fairing the transom to get it ready for paint. Doing a transom hole repair should be a permanent fix and the method I use should last the life of the boat. See how I repair the bulkhead of this Boston Whaler restoration that had a large piece of missing fiberglass and Gelcoat. This Gelcoat repair is effective for non structural areas, I wouldn't do this on a hull or floor. The fiberglass repair can be done easily on this Whaler since there is a foam backing that the epoxy resin can adhere too. This gelcoat restoration will be undetectable when finished! In this video, I'll be reconstructing the transom on the Boston Whaler 13 Restoration. The port side of the transom has been cut out in the past to make room for the steering rod. I decided to do a fiberglass transom repair on this and I've completely rebuilt the transom to it's original form. You can see the Materials List Link in the description below. I'll be using a transom cable mount so won't need the cut out. You can watch as I restore this transom to it's original factory condition, including the hole for the lift/tow eye. In part 3, I'll be doing a fiberglass repair of a fairly large hole in the anchor locker of this 1966 Boston Whaler Restoration. Materials List available in link below. I've already laid a bed of thickened epoxy resin in the hole for this boat restoration. Not really part of a fiberglass hole repair, but in this case, it adds a substantial base to the repair. Any future anchors bouncing in this locker shouldn't cause any serious damage! For Fiberglass resin I used epoxy resin on this repair and six layers of fiberglass. I started with two layers of woven fiberglass mat and then four subsequent layer of chopped fiberglass mats in two weights, 1.5 ounce and then .39 ounce. I think the results are pretty solid! I'm restoring an old (1966) Boston Whaler restoration. One of the first things I want to do is take the Norman pins out so I can do a complete renovation of the inside of the boat.Also I want to restore these old norman pins (cleats).
