Fitness should never be versing health but unfortunately we don't always have a balanced view of fitness. We may want a certain look that is associated with fitness so much that we are willing to sacrifice our health to get it. Or if we are an athlete we might focus solely on training one way to improve our performance. Neglecting other areas that might benefit our lives. For example if you are a marathoner when it comes time to move something heavy like a washing machine or a fridge. You may wish you spent some more time hitting the weights. Or you could be a powerlifter used to lifting big heavy objects, but get winded running down the street to catch a bus.

Health based fitness is not a new concept and it doesn't mean you can't run a marathon or lift heavy weights in the gym. But what it does mean is that the focus of your fitness is to support and improve your health.
