On March 27th, deputies were serving a search warrant for 28-year-old Brandunn Wilson, suspected of committing a murder in the foothill community of North Fork on March 13th.

The victim was killed by a firearm that connected Wilson to the murder.

Wilson was known to deputies and had been involved in multiple vehicle pursuits.

Deputies attempted a traffic stop on N. Friant Rd. but Wilson took off, leading deputies on a winding high-speed chase, reaching speeds upwards of 100 miles per hour.

Deputies backed off for safety reasons and continued to monitor Wilson’s location with the assistance of air units from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department.

Wilson drove through the town of North Fork and then deep into the mountains on Mammoth Pool Road.

He eventually pulled off the road and drove until the car became disabled, and he got out and ran away on foot.

From the air, Wilson could be seen running into an area of thick brush and steep hills.

Members of the Madera County Swat Team were airlifted to the location.

The sheriff's office said information obtained from previous attempts to locate Wilson indicated that he would not allow deputies to take him alive.

As ground units searched for Wilson, air crews used a public address system and urged Wilson to stop and surrender, but he did not comply.

Wilson continued to move through the area for more than 30 minutes before hiding in an overgrown area of brush.

The aircrew knew where he was hiding and led Swat Team members and deputies to the location where he hid for more than an hour.

As deputies approached, Wilson fired a shot and slumped over, as can be seen in the air unit video.

Because he was mostly obscured by thick brush, deputies could not see where Wilson was shooting and returned fire, hitting him.

The follow-up investigation showed that the gunshot was Wilson shooting himself in the head.

Wilson’s handgun was modified with a polymer 80 lower receiver with the slide and barrel from a .40 caliber Glock 23 handgun.

The gun was located next to his body along with a .40 caliber casing.
