Bodycam: Video of Shootout Between Coweta County GA Deputy and Armed Suspect

On April 18, 2021 Multiple law enforcement officers from numerous agencies engaged in a vehicle pursuit with Mario Clarke, 26 Clarke on Interstate 85 when he crashed and abandoned his car at mile marker 48. Clarke ran toward the woods, and law enforcement tracked him to a PetSmart. Deputies saw Clarke and tried to talk to him when he, again, fled on foot, holding a handgun. Next, A Coweta County Sheriff’s Office deputy saw Clarke near Whitlock Recreation Center and chased him in his squad car. The deputy shouted commands at Clarke, who then turned and fired on the deputy which triggered a shootout between him and the law enforcement agencies on scene.

Clarke was ultimately stuck by a bullet, treated on scene and then taken to the hospital where he was treated and ultimately released but remains paralyzed as a result of the shooting.

Clarke, 26, was charged with aggravated assault for shootout with his father.
