Detailing pro tip, how to keep a car door open when it keeps closing #shorts

This is a trick I don't have to do that often on client cars thankfully. But it was actually my own car that made me go pick up some vice grips for the van.

When I posted this on Instagram on of the comments said just use a block of wood to prop open the door. A couple of problems with that suggestion. That block of wood has to touch the paint somewhere. Any contact with the paint could lead to light scratching. Also if you don't have wood cutting tools handy the chances of having the right sized piece of wood for the job are low.

With the vice grips you can see I lock it on to door holder or door stopper. This is actually the part that is supposed to hold the door open for you until a light amount of force is applied to the door to close it. This is not a cosmetic part and it doesn't matter if the teeth of the vice grip scratch it. What the vice grips rest against is the plastic of the door card.

Nowhere do the vice grips contact the paint on this vehicle. This might not be the case on every vehicle.
