Modern video games have some advantages over the classics, but they also suffer from so many problems that did not need to affect them so drastically. One such issue with gaming now is the always-online component and the lack of game preservation. These games are so reliant on the internet and so reliant on connectivity features, that they completely crumple and fade away without these. Meanwhile, games from the earlier console generations can be played with no problems, to this day. I've been noticing a lot of misplaced brand loyalty lately and the idea that companies are our friends and we need to be super thankful for the things they do. I completely disagree with this notion and I truly believe it's used by massive corporations to control people and sway public opinion. Obviously, there are creative individuals within every company who deserve a ton of respect and really do want to create art and make good things for people. That said, at the top of these companies, most of the executives themselves are only interested in one thing - money. They don't care what you or I think and they double or triple down on mistakes because it's easier than admitting they were wrong. One of the most unfortunate things about the internet is that it has made it extremely easy for people to ruin others' fun and hurt them remotely. I'm getting very tired of this, personally, and wanted to talk a little bit about it. Call of Duty hackers have been a known problem for a long time now. On PC, this is even worse, as it can be an outright security risk to your machine and private information. On console, it's mainly just a silly nuisance that makes the people doing it look idiotic. A new exploit is being widely reported online that these mod tools can permanently ban Xbox accounts if you are in a party chat. Basically, someone can come into the party and mass report your account, or do one of several other things to it, that renders it useless. I wanted to talk about something that really annoys me in gaming - achievements and trophies. There are good uses of these things, but they can actually really hurt games.
