African Folklore Stories | Ep. 2: Why The Zebra Has A Stripy Coat?

Once upon a time, all the animals in the world looked exactly the same, and they became bored with their uniform appearance. They asked The Creator if they could have a way to distinguish themselves from one another. The Creator listened to their request and spent weeks crafting various coats and horns of different shapes and sizes, so the animals could choose what they wanted.

Excited, the animals rushed off to pick their new look, except for the fat Zebra, who was too busy eating his meal. The Zebra loved food above all else, and he wouldn't let anything interrupt his meals.

After finishing his meal, Zebra wandered to The Creator, passing the other animals, who now looked completely different. The Elephant had chosen a simple gray coat and had magnificent tusks to complement it. The Lion had picked a sleek coat with a stunning mane. The Rhino, being a bit nearsighted, had chosen a baggy coat that was too big for him, and he had two different-sized horns.

Zebra's mind raced with excitement as he thought about what coat and horns he wanted. But, to his disappointment, when he finally reached The Creator, there were no horns left, and there was only one coat remaining. The last coat was black and white, with rather garish stripes. Zebra had no choice but to take it.

Since that day, Zebras have been wearing their iconic black and white striped coats. Moreover, they are still always hungry, and it is rare to find a thin Zebra.
