For those of us who grew up in West , the idea that government security agents would one day be monitoring our movements, phone calls, text messages and internet activity seemed impossible. Today, however, we know that security agencies including the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and Communications Security Establishment (CSE), as well as local law enforcement agencies, are conducting unprecedented levels or surveillance on Canadians for a variety of purposes. We only know this is happening because of document leaks and government whistleblowers. While many people immediately recognize the problems that arise from this kind of mass surveillance, others have no issues with the practice. A common argument that skeptics use to brush off concerns about mass surveillance is that “only people who have something to hide” need to worry about it. This is a dangerous position to take for anyone who cares about democratic values, such as free expression, freedom of political affiliation and the right to privacy. Evidence shows that mass surveillance erodes intellectual freedom and damages the social fabric of affected societies; it also opens the door to flawed and illegal profiling of individuals. Mass surveillance has also been shown to not prevent terrorist attacks. Evidence shows that even the possibility of being under surveillance changes the way people think and act, causing them to avoid writing or talking about sensitive or controversial subjects—discussions that are necessary for the functioning of a free society. Beyond this ‘self-censorship’, the mass monitoring of citizens’ communications and movements achieves only one thing: the development of mutual mistrust between the individual and the state. ALTERED BEHAVIOUR So, how does mass surveillance affect the way we act? A 2016 study showed that people alter their behavior when they are reminded that the government is watching their activities. To test the effects of surveillance, participants in the study were first shown a fictional news headline about the United States targeting the Islamic State in an airstrike. They were then asked how they felt about the event while being regularly reminded that their responses were being monitored. As a result, most people in the study began to suppress opinions about the fictional event that they felt to be controversial or that they believed may lead to the government to scrutinize them. Interestingly, the study also showed that participants who support the idea of mass surveillance were the most likely to suppress their own non-conformist opinions. When it comes to creativity and the free expression of ideas, a survey conducted by PEN America in 2013 found that one in every six writers “has avoided writing or speaking on a topic they thought would subject them to surveillance.” Some analysts have pointed out that while journalists, activists and others who have already accepted the possibility of surveillance tend to continue their activities as before, people who are less politically engaged—oftentimes the average citizen—are more likely to self-censor and curb their involvement in any sort of activism as a result of ongoing surveillance. This chilling effect on participation in social causes and activities is an obvious threat to a functioning democracy. According to Glenn Greenwald, governments, corporations and other institutions of authority “crave surveillance…precisely because the possibility of being monitored radically changes individual and collective behavior,” leading to “fear and collective conformity.” Available evidence supports this claim. DATA COLLECTION AND AGGREGATION Beyond its corrosive effects on intellectual curiosity and free speech, two extremely dangerous products of mass surveillance include the gathering and assembling of surveillance data to create individual profiles and to fuel predictive analysis. Security and law enforcement agencies aggregate surveillance data to create profiles of people and then attempt to predict their future behavior based on what they’ve done in the past. The problem with this practice is that it’s easy to make flawed presumptions and predictions based on data assembled in this ‘Frankenstein’ manner. These types of presumptions and biases are on display in so-called Crime Predicting software, which have been shown to disproportionately target poor and minority communities. While some of our security agencies have said they only collect “metadata” and not the contents of our communications, using metadata in an attempt to glean insights from people’s behavior has a high potential for abuse, especially as ever-increasing amounts of data are gathered and stored in ways beyond our control. The recent revelation that CSIS has been illegally storing metadata about Canadians only reinforces the seriousness of the current situation.

Ever since the World Health Organization declared a “worldwide pandemic,” Dr. Anthony Fauci has had a narrow mind about the origins of SARS-CoV-2. Fauci quickly claimed lab leak a “conspiracy theory” and agreed to a “published takedown” of dissenters Fauci was so adamant about shutting down scientific debate, he even helped craft an academic paper decrying that the “lab leak theory” was a “conspiracy theory.” In communications with NIH director Francis Collins, Fauci agreed to a “published takedown” of “fringe” scientists from Harvard, Oxford and Stanford. Anyone who questioned Dr. Fauci was promptly labeled a “conspiracy theorist,” and any information about a potential lab leak was labeled “misinformation” and taken down. He quickly assembled an academic paper (published in Nature) to discredit anyone who suggested the possibility of a lab leak. The academic paper, “The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2,” was written promptly after a Feb 1, 2020 teleconference held by Fauci. Four out of five virologists who authored the paper were on this secret teleconference with Fauci. Three of the authors reported to Fauci that they were “60 to 80 percent sure” that SARS-CoV-2 was of laboratory origin. Their warnings were also conveyed in the now unredacted emails, which immediately followed the teleconference. However, Fauci denied the evidence at a Feb 3 meeting with the National Academy of Scientists — just two days after he received intel on the lab leak. Scientists around the world provided details about the engineered features of the virus. This evidence was known in February of 2020, before Fauci led a nationwide lock down that harmed countless lives and livelihoods. No matter the evidence, no matter the scientific warnings, Dr. Fauci tried to quash any evidence of a potential lab leak immediately after he was warned. The "Freedom Convoy" is gaining traction on a new crowdfunding platform after GoFundMe shut its doors on the movement. As of Tuesday afternoon, the group had raised more than US$6.3 million from 69,661 donors on GiveSendGo, which describes itself as the “#1 free Christian crowdfunding site. The new campaign states that funds raised will help cover the cost of fuel for the truckers protesting across Canada and will also help with food and shelter costs, “to help ease the pressures of this arduous task.” “In order for your generous donations to flow smoothly, the good people at GiveSendGo will be sending donations directly to our bulk fuel supplier and are working out the details now which means your hard earned money is going straight to who it was meant for and need not flow through anyone else,” the page description reads. “Any left over donations will be donated to a credible veterans organization which will be chosen by the donors.” However, in a statement issued Monday, GiveSendGo said they’ve been in contact with campaign organizers and have received “full assurance” that all funds raised will go to providing humanitarian aid and legal support for the truckers. Capital Dispatch: Stay up to date on the latest news from Parliament Hill Last Friday, GoFundMe removed the group’s fundraising page, where they had raised more than $10 million, after stating the objectives of the convoy violated the platform’s terms. “We now have evidence from law enforcement that the previously peaceful demonstration has become an occupation, with police reports of violence and other unlawful activity,” a statement from GoFundMe reads. An initial $1 million had already been released to the organizers of the protests. The rest of the money will be refunded directly to donors. For close to two weeks the convoy’s Ottawa-based rally has blockaded the downtown core of the nation’s capital, shuttering businesses, clogging traffic, and generating lawsuit-provoking noise pollution. It’s all in an attempt to convince elected officials to remove all vaccine mandates and other public health restrictions. The protests have garnered global attention, namely in the U.S. Many U.S. media personalities, political strategists, and elected officials have applauded the movement for its pursuit to restore “freedom.” While information about donors, their location, and their intention remains limited, Ottawa Police Chief Peter Sloly indicated in a press conference last week that there may be U.S. ties. “We are now aware of a significant element from the U.S. that have been involved in the funding, the organizing,” he said. GiveSendGo does provide a list of donations but many supporters are identified as “anonymous” and they provide no information about their location. Amounts range anywhere from $10 to $25,000. In the comments section, donors urge the convoy not to quit, to keep fighting for the working class, and to continue to stand up against “tyranny.” Some directly call out Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. In a video posted to the top of the fundraising page, convoy organizer Tamara Lich – a Prairies-based political activist – said the group plans to be in Ottawa for the “long haul.” “As long as it takes to ensure that your rights and freedoms are restored,” she said. Excess deaths, by definition, are the difference between the observed number of deaths during a specific time frame and the expected number during the same period. State-level data from the 12-month period studied showed increases in excess deaths, with Nevada’s as high as 65 percent. In a news conference, Davison said that there was a 40 percent rise in death rates among working-age individuals from 18 to 64 years old in Indiana, although COVID was not the leading cause of such deaths. If humanity collectively made such a transition on a mass scale — a transition which sages across the millennia assure us humans are fully capable of — then humanity would become impossible to propagandize effectively. If humanity becomes impossible to propagandize effectively, the lies will be impossible to conceal via mainstream narrative control, and humanity using the strength of its numbers to create a healthy society will become an inevitability. And the funny thing is, in a weird way from way out of left field that nobody could possibly have anticipated, humanity’s current relationship with mental narrative appears to be drawing to a close.

In the Americas, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela all experienced popular unrest. And the list goes on. “The data shows that the amount of protests is increasing and is as high as the roaring 1960s,” according to Jacquelien van Stekelenburg, an academic who studies social change at Vrije University in Amsterdam. The year 2019 has drawn comparisons to 1848, when the ruling elites and monarchies in Europe were at a loss as to how to deal with the turbulence and anger tearing through the continent. Then, as now, the immediate grievances propelling protesters onto the streets differed from country to country: 170 years ago, some were protesting at the dysfunction and corruption of their states and anger at hidebound elites for resisting modernization and liberal change. Have-nots marched out of economic despair. Nationalists wanted to break away from empires. Anarchists wanted to blow everything up. In the so-called Spring of Nations — revolutions of 1848 — seemingly small incidents or government decisions could spark the trouble. So, too, in 2019. France’s Yellow Vests, drawn largely from low-income earners in small-town and rural France, took to the streets and blockaded roads to protest higher “green” taxes on fuel. The same in Chile and Ecuador — planned sharp rises in fuel prices and metro fares triggered the fury this year of low-income and rural communities. But behind the immediate causes, far more substantive and structural grievances have fueled the worldwide protests. In Lebanon, demonstrators initially took to the streets because of frustration over a tax on WhatsApp, but that was just the spark for an ongoing conflagration of rage over corruption and Iranian influence on the country. The Yellow Vest agitation morphed into a general exasperation about being left-behind economically.
