POLE CREEK TRAIL to CAMP LAKE. Central Oregon, USA

Hello again! Thanks for tuning in...

The Pole Creek Trail can be accessed in Sisters Oregon... tis very easy access, even for vehicles without four wheel drive. Seven miles of the best Forestry roads that are in superb condition and you are at the trailhead where pit toilets are located. All the usual passes for the Sisters Wilderness are in effect: America The Beautiful/NorthWest Forest Pass for parking, and the Central Cascades Wilderness Permit that must be purchased between June 15th and October 15th - which limits the number of hikers into the Sisters Wilderness - day and night. Rangers are frequent fellow travelers out in the wilderness here too, despite the Trails to Camp Lake being much less traveled than the main hikers trail to the top of South Sister.

Camp Lake is unbelievably beautiful. But can be very windy at any time of the year due to its location between South and Middle Sisters. During the Fall... or in Winter - it can be quite the adventure! I once had to hike the 14 miles back out immediately once it became apparent that the wind was too strong, the rain too hard and the temperature too cold for me and the gear that I brought. I had intended to camp right beside Camp Lake that one day in late late October but as evening settled in and as the Wind picked way up it was obvious that I had to get out of there immediately. The wind was practically taking down my tent and was blowing the rain right on in! It was also brutally cold and I knew my 20 degree sleeping bag wasn't going to suit those conditions! So I immediately packed up my gear and hiked right on back out of there! Better safe than sorry. All of the many other times that I have camped out by the Lake have been awesome - with no issues. This is the ideal location to camp out before hitting the Sisters for hiking, scrambling and or climbing adventures. Summertime is the best time to go!
