Milan Cathedral (Duomo) is a functioning church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, where services are held for both Catholics and parishioners of the Russian Orthodox Church. The grandiose building, lined with white Candolian marble, strikes with architectural splendor. Construction began in the Middle Ages and lasted 600 years, officially ending only in 1965.

The building can accommodate 40,000 people at the same time.

Under the arched vault above the altar, a Christian shrine is kept - a nail from the crucifixion of Jesus. The relic is shown to believers once a year, on September 14th.
