From Persecution to Cannibalism Accusations: The Early Days of Christianity

The conversation begins with a brief history of the early Christian church. The term "church fathers" refers to Christian leaders from the first 500 years of the church. "Apostolic fathers" were leaders who were directly discipled and ordained by the apostles Peter, Paul, and John. Christology is the study of who Christ was and what he did, and the further back in history one goes, the higher the Christology. The church grew quickly under persecution in its early years. The Romans accused the Christians of being cannibals, atheists, and incestuous because they ate the body and blood of Christ, had no place of worship, and only married brothers and sisters in Christ. The apostolic fathers were shepherds over one church, and later they became bishops over multiple churches.
