DM 46.1 – EndlessOS 5
What is EndlessOS? I’ve tlaked about it a bit in the past, if you’ve been around the channel for a while. It is a splinter project from Elementary OS, and is Debian with a read-only core, which also has Flatpak and OSTree to manage other packages, and core packages, respectively. This means that the OS itself is immutable, unchangeable until you upgrade to the next version. Apps and other packages are sealed away from the OS itself, through OSTree and Flatpak, which keep the OS updated in a consistent and immutable (unchangeable) way, and a system which allows apps to install in their own packages, without needing to modify anything about the OS itself.
What’s new in Endless 5?
· Changed the desktop experience (GNOME + some bells & whistles)
· Multitasking
o Defaults to having multiple workspaces, to make it easier to organize yourself
· New App Center
· Multi-touch gestures
· Improved multi-graphics support

DM 46.3 – EndeavourOS Cassini Neo Out Now
EndeavourOS is an almost pure Arch distro, and I tried it not long after I started doing news videos last April. I came across it, gave it a shot, but then they hit a sudden issue that broke the system, when they made the switch from pipewiresession to wireplumber, and it borked sound for me (kind of important for making effective videos, yeah?). I went back to Manjaro for my studio rig after that, and haven’t really looked back for that machine. It just works, and I have my creature comforts. Endeavour is not for the faint of heart, as it will make you learn the terminal because it does not come with any GUI based pkg managers. That said, I am glad that it exists, as it is Arch only with the Calamares installer and a space theme. What’s new in this release?
· Linux 61 LTS (6.1 LTS kernel)
· Support for 12th gen Intel with Arc gfx cards
· improved Calamares graphical installer
o that now supports encryption when choosing the “Replace a partition” option in the Partitions screen
o should no longer crash when not selecting any of the options in the Bootloader screen
· improves installation support for slower machine
· improves full resume/hibernation support after installation on some systems
· updates some core components to their latest versions to patch recently disclosed security vulnerabilities, especially in the XOrg Server
