Arch 2023.1.1 Out With Linux 6.1

DM 40.1 – NitruxOS 2.6 Update Released, So What?
What is NitruxOS? It’s a distro I’ve talked about a couple of times in the past. It has a systemD-less Debian base. And they use their own, heavily modded version of KDE that they call NX Desktop. When I tried it 6 months ago, it was a hot mess, with it seemingly half broken. I don’t know how much more usable it is now. But here is what else is new here:

Linux 6.1
Wayland Support
Pipewire Support
No more apt, packagekit, or dpkg for package management
Only AppImage or Flatpak (purely containerized, down to telling users to run Distrobox to install normal packages)
Samba support
Root is now immutable
And a bunch more under the hood...

Christ is all in all. Amen. This prayer invites Jesus to be our light,
our shield, our covering, to be under, above, beside us, in front
of us, behind us, in us, and outside us. Do you need wisdom?
Try Jesus. Guidance? Try Jesus. All around protection?
Call on Jesus. Let Him be all that and more for you today. He
is our Lord, but a the servant Lord that He is, He also helps us,
guides us, and protects us from the enemy’s efforts.
That is not to say that Jesus will negate the consequences of our
choices, but those things which come at us which we did not
bring on ourselves, he will at least dull for us.

DM 40.2 – New Spins Coming with Fedora 38

What options are they adding to the mix, this time?

Why, Budgie and Sway, of course.

Budgie has a small, but dedicated community around it, particularly in the Solus community. I am not surprised that this was added, what I am surprised at is how long it took for the Fedora community to do this.

Sway is a tiling window manager based on the Wayland protocols. I have tried to use it, but couldn’t get used to the very keyboard-centric way of doing things, but if you are a developer, or got used to shortcuts to do everything when you first learned to use the computer, then this may be right up your alley.

Good stuff, even with as little as I really like Fedora personally, the community is very active and it is a very vibrant distro as a result.

DM 40.3 – Archlinux 2023.01.01 ISO Out Now

What’s new in this ISO? Well, Linux 6.1, of course. Not much else, and those who already run Arch on their systems already have Linux 6.1. Just the first ISO release for Arch in the new year. Cheers.
