Oak Hill Church of Christ 6-27-22 Message: "Stronghold"

Oak Hill Church of Christ preaching minister, Randy Sterling, delivers a message on the importance of developing a trust and faith in God to overcome struggle and adversity.

Everyone has flaws: things about themselves that they are not proud of, things they wish they could change, or mistakes that seem to follow them like a ball-and-chain no matter where they go. It's easy to feel defeated by the constant drumbeat of negativity, the calls of the crowd, and the taunts of the enemy. It's possible to feel so defeated that you surrender without ever firing a shot.

The Bible suggests something different: Doing it anyway. The story of David and his conquest of the land that would one day become Israel involved many situations in which David had to resist the feeling of defeat. He was taunted by his enemies, and even forced into temporary exile by his own son. When he attempted to take the well-defended city that would one day become Jerusalem, he was taunted. He was made fun of. God's chosen one was laughed at and belittled.

David did not go home. He did not back down. He did not surrender. He fought, and the Bible says that after his victory, the city was ever after referred to as "the City of David."

If you want something named after you: don't surrender, don't give in, don't listen. Call on God for help, align your battles with Godly motives and fight. Who knows what you might conquer together with God.
