The power of God! Who else can create giant galaxies and delicate little flowers? Yes, the power of God! Who else can reign as King of all creation and also enter humanity as a baby? When you think about the power of God, what comes to your mind? Is it mountains and oceans? Or maybe joy or healing?

I wonder what it must have been like for the people who actually watched, heard and experienced God’s incredible power as he parted the Red Sea and swallowed Pharaoh’s army of chariots. We can try to visualize what happened through movies like The Ten Commandments, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqCTq3EeDcY that showed Moses standing with his arms outstretched over the water.

But for now, let’s focus just on listening to God’s power…. Try to imagine hearing the intensity and force of a wind strong enough to hold up towering walls of water! Billions of gallons forced back to create a dry path! The pounding thunder, the striking lightning crashes and energy inside those swirling black clouds must have been deafening, dreadful and packed with a fear that would make the worst tornado seem tame. To all that noise, add the sheer turbulence of the cascading water and cries of people all around. Just the sounds alone would have been absolutely unforgettable!

After hearing, seeing and experiencing the power of God as he freed the Israelites from Egypt, Moses spoke to these same people about loving God with all their hearts, souls and minds.

No wonder why Moses started by saying, “Know today that I am speaking to you whose eyes have witnessed the awesome acts, and outstretched arm of the Lord, our God.” Yes, these people were witnesses who had personally seen, touched and felt the power of God and his almighty, outstretched arm! Who could ever forget that? Who could have even imagined such power!

Now let’s fast forward 4000 years to us, living in our modern world and ask ourselves just one question…. In your opinion, which is more powerful…. God’s parting of the Red Sea, or God becoming a little child to show us the depth of his love? God killing the Egyptian army, or God allowing evil men to kill his one and only son?

With perfect 20/20 vision of looking in the past, we can see that Moses is speaking to us, because we too have witnessed the outstretched arm of God in a way far beyond what Moses could even have imagined. Yes, God is still calling us through the ancient words of Moses, “I am speaking to you whose eyes have witnessed the awesome acts, and outstretched arm of the Lord, our God.”
