Well, the Casa Cuevas Reserva Maduro doesn't just look good, but it smells good too! When I removed the cigar from its cellophane and took in the aroma of the wrapper, I smelled rich notes of, well, tobacco. A great aroma for a great first impression.

After cutting the end with my guillotine, the Reserva Maduro's torpedo end offered a wonderful, “immaculate” even, draw. However, despite the Casa Cuevas Reserva Maduro's almost black wrapper, the cold draw flavors, in contrast, were very light and tasted green and a little bit like lighter pine wood. Upon closer examination, the binder and filler tobaccos were significantly lighter in color than the wrapper.

Once the cigar was lit, the smoke had the aromas of leather, earth, and tobacco. The draw was good, but the flavors were in stark contrast to the dark maduro wrapper.

Through the middle of the Casa Cuevas Reserva Maduro, though I didn't love the flavors, the smoke was almost buttery smooth. The perfect draw delivered a very interesting experience to my palate.

However, a hollow spot in the cigar does make me questions the overall construction of the stick, which is otherwise pretty good.

Final Thoughts

The Casa Cuevas Reserva Maduro Torpedo is an okay cigar. While I didn't love the flavors of green wood, they might be what you like, and they might be what Casa Cuevas intended when they release this cigar in the middle of 2019. That said, I don't think the Reserva Maduro was as rich and flavorful as it could (or should) have been.

Regarding the cigar's construction, it was also okay, with the only complaint being the area where there seemed to be hollow spots. But, unlike most hollow spots, the ones in the Reserva Maduro didn't have a negative impact on the overall experience.

At the end of the day, the fact that I didn't love the flavors doesn't outweigh all of the things this cigar has going for it. So, the Casa Cuevas Reserva Maduro Torpedo earns a CigarScore 4.
