Unlimited Saga (PS2) Gameplay Sample

I've owned this game for over a decade, but only played it once or twice, but never that far into it, because I had absolutely no idea what was going on in this game. Now that I have played about 30 minutes into it, I can confidently say that I still have no idea what is going on in this game.

I guess I did figure out that there was a combo system of sorts, but the rest of the game has me puzzled, and scratching my head on what you are supposed to do, or should be doing. In fact, I'm not the only one as this game scored terribly all around, and it's well liked my, well, almost anyone to be honest. OK, there are some people who see this game as misunderstood, and some who really like it (See the gamefaqs user reviews https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps2/561939-unlimited-saga/reviews )

You can choose from one of seven characters, like in Saga Frontier on the 1, but that's really where all the rest of the similarities between this and previous Saga games end. This is definitely an interesting experiment on Square-Enix's part, and definitely an acquired taste. I'm not sure if I will ever acquire a taste for the game, it definitely has some unique ideas at play.

On the plus side, the 2D artwork on display here is beautiful, but the strange board game navigation is meh. Tis a weird game, nuff said.
