Quake III Revolution (PS2) Gameplay Sample

I used to be much better at hitting Rails with the old Dualshock 2, but as you can see, my skills have diminished. I guess that's what happens when you jump into a save you haven't played for probably well over a decade.

In case you are wondering, this game has widescreen support, but apologies if the image is a little stretched due to my video editor. I am using that Hyperkin Cable I covered a while back for this footage, which is what I have been using for all my recent 2 footage (except the progressive scan titles).

Quake III Revolution is a really fun port of the game to the 2. The load times are a bit too long, but with the right selected preset, you can make it control like a modern dual analog F game (the default control scheme is bad, but you can find the right preset in the option). However, I could not find a way to make the aim speed faster, which is why I sometimes look like I'm lost when trying to face an opponent.

Overall, this is a really fun port. Not, it doesn't have any online, or keyboard and mouse support, but for splitscreen action with friends, or a fun single player experience, this is still a fun port to play. This was an early 2 game, and it was exciting to see PC to console ports that weren't degraded when compared to the originals (yes PC gamers, I know, teh controlz and teh low rez of tube TV's). I would say that Bullfrog Productions did a better job of optimizing Quake III to run on the 2 than Epic did with Unreal Tournament (granted UT was a launch game, so they may have rushed it).

When compared to it's competition when it hit, Unreal Tournament, and Timesplitters, TS will always own both of them for not just the multiplayer insanity, a myriad of options, and such a smooth framer-rate, I would say both QIII, and UT are still fun if you find them for cheap. The load times in QIII aren't great, but it's framerate is solid when compared to UT. UT has a lot more modes, and options though. Still worth a play if you find it for cheap.
