When someone shows us that they don't like us or they disrespect us, our initial instinct is to prove ourselves to them - that we are capable, worthy, nice, good people.Show more

But Jesus never teaches us to do that. Instead, He teaches us to forgive this person who acts like our enemy and this is how we break our codependency on them.

We pray for them, we bless them, we do good to them because we want to be like our Father in Heaven, not in order to prove ourselves to them.

We choose to do the last thing we feel like doing because we made a commitment to Jesus to learn from Him and do what He says - sometimes, in spite of our feelings and even our beliefs!
