Pirate Party's of the 1980's Reseda California 2
Pirate Parties come and go but these parties took it to the Max!!
Chris Dorr and friends worked tirelessly for a year in preparation for these parties. They had it all, from barrels of ale to drums of rum, beef roast on a spit. lets not forget even a medieval tavern where wenches and the like could be found. Some of the parties features were a fully operational suspension bridge which was the only entrance to the party, it was quite the adventure crossing this passage like a drunken fool!!!
A real treasure hunt was also in among the nights activities, the loot was real jewelry, silver dollars in a treasure chest, what else would you expect..... back when they were actually silver coins. All the treasure was hidden days before the festivities began, what would be a treasure hunt without a map right. Maps were few but if you were lucky enough to find one or join a group that had one you might have been lucky enough to reap a portion of the stash.
A ships mast with crows nest was erected and was the center piece of the party, built strong enough to support the many pirates that dared to climb its ropes and peered down upon the rest of us mere mortals.
Back drops and sound effects were in place one of the parties to bring your drunken self to feel the atmosphere of the South Pacific. A marriage actually took place in one of these parties even sand was brought in and with the back drop you had a sandy beach to sit on. No details were missed, how about in the tavern wall knot hole in the walls, is that a ra looking down at us....
One of the main events at all the parties was the ship battles, yes real ship battles face off’s through out the night well into the early morning hours!!
Anyone could enter a ship, first you would need to build a model ship of choice, but whats next is what made the difference of winning or losing. You had to find a way of equipping your ship with real cannons inside the cannon ports on her side! This is where to strategy took place. Every cannon was wired independently out the back to a control box that could be triggered by the operator at will when the signal was given. To take it a step further a 500 gallon + tank with plexi-glass tops and bottom was built for this purpose alone. The top was to protect from the ball bearing cannons and the bottom was to view the sinking of ships to the depths and settle on the bottom of the sea with the fishes!!! Yes the tank was filled with fish and crustaceans!!!
